Which product code? Not available for 059D7X4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 389 ✭✭KrisW

My e-Mobile SIM-free phone has 1.2 on it now, but the product code is 059C5Q8, which is actually a UK code, according to one of the spreadsheets Nokia published before.

Seems the early handsets were sourced from a variety of places, and not all were branded/locked.

I've noticed no differences between 1.1 and 1.2, so if you don't have it, don't worry about it.

By the way, if this hasn't been mentioned before: Nokia are announcing new Symbian (i.e., not Windows Phone) stuff on Tuesday morning, 9:00. (http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/05/nokia-announces-symbian-smartphone-event-for-april-12/)

This is exactly why I replied to one of your posts a few weeks ago.
You make statements that are, at best, ambiguous and then leave.
People come here needing, amongst other things, help - not to be confused even more.
Even your reply to my post..... doesn't address the issue I raised. I didn't ask about NSS.

Unless appearances are deceiving, you do seem to have quite a bit of knowledge. It would be great if you used that knowledge to help others effectively.
Twas a reply to a poster linking to a guide which he said would let you change product code

but Nemisis Service Suite does not support Nokia S^3 phones - so no way to change product code!

Can anyone help me with this issue. My Eircom mail was working fine all along but last night I logged into my ericom mail on my pc using microsoft outlook and the second I did this I started getting the following message on my email on my phone.

[38] account not found. Delete account and add it again.

So I deleted the account and tried to add it again but it keeps failing. Telling me it can't connect to the server because of my settings. It then loads Eircom net free and that wouldn't be so bad but none of my personel folders are visible.

Has anyone experienced this issue ?

I had exactly the same issue and followed the same route as you.
Just checked my email on the phone and seems to be running normally.
By personal folders, do you mean extra folders you set up yourself? I don't have any of those, so I wouldn't know about that.

Yeah they are folders I set up myself, Well it's only one. I found this on another forum in relation to the C7, I might try this as a last resort.

Delete all your mail accounts on your C7.

Then set them up again one by one, but when asked during the installation process to accept the agreement choose "decline"; and confirm that you indeed want to decline.
Then you proceed setting up your account. This will be done without the Nokia server being involved, just as setting up an email account on any computer.
Open "Mailbox settings", select "advanced mailbox settings", and there you have all the options for configuring your account.

    Should work flawlessly after that.
At least it did on my C7 after having experienced the same kind of problems you were describing.

It was always stated that PR1.2 was always only a small update to fix e-mail synchronisation problems....so I don't know what else you seemed to be expecting!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 389 ✭✭KrisW

That was my point actually: people fretting about not having PR1.2 need not worry: there's nothing new and cool that they're missing out on.

The major change in 1.2 was to fix a synchonisation bug with some MS Exchange setups. If you didn't have the problem, you won't notice anything new on 1.2...

Pretty sure you can't as those apps are not designed for Symbian^3

Feck it, someone in the thread a while ago was saying there was away to install them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,173 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Well maybe there is, but I just doubt it! The only way I can see it working is if you could install Maemo on your N8...which you can't...or if someone just redesigned a Maemo App for Symbian^3

1.2 upgrade available on meteor now

Where did you hear this exactly?? A link would be great because it's clearly not true for all product codes, I'm still stuck on PR1.0.

@deco nate: That's not how you update the firmware, that's only a software update. You go to settings - phone - phone management - device updates - options - check for updates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,561 ✭✭✭rickyjb

Does anyone know how to use the opera browser for apps/email etc? Whenever a link is opened through an app or email it still uses the crappy pre-installed browser, is it possible to change this?

i got n8 from meteor store as soon as was released. As it says above it's possible that meteor got some unlocked n8's and sold them before locked ones were released. I can't say if this is the case or not but it would explain why I've been able to update where others have not. I'm on product code 059c5q8.

    dr ro,

You've the same product code as me, and not only is that not a "Meteor" code, it's not even an "Ireland" code. It's listed as "UK, No carrier" by Nokia.

The "real" Meteor/eMobile ones are not so quick with updates.

    Settings->Application Settings->Default Applications->Browsing Internet->select Opera Mobile

    That should do the trick!

Works fine for most things - e.g. links in mail etc.
Doesn't work with the social widget though.

    More info here

I suspected something was amiss. It's not like meteor to be up to date.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that didn't work before but it seems to now, maybe because of the new version of opera mobile??

Everytime I check Accuweather, it keeps on asking me if it can connect to the net. Is there any way to set it so that it doesn't ask first?

There's a bug in Web Runtime, which is the basis of Nokia Social and Ovi Store, that means it doesn't honour your preferred browser settings. So, links someone puts up on Facebook or twitter will always open in the built-in browser.

I have noticed some screen burn in the last few days on my N8 has anybody else had this and do nokia repair or replace on this issue does anybody know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 419 ✭✭bohsfan

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of upgrading to this handset purely because the camera specs seem so good. I'm not that interested in apps etc. I just want to have a phone that will allow me to not have to bring a digital camera out with me all the time.

As you guys are owners of the phone- does the camera functions live up to the hype? Would you recommend this phone purely based in the camera?

Thanks, I'm sure this has prob been covered before, but 82 pages is a lot to get through!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,561 ✭✭✭rickyjb

I think the camera is as good as if not better than most digital cameras i've seen but i'm no expert. Can't really comment on the functionality, seems to do everything your standard digital will do.

Other sites reckon a version of this phone will ship with WP7, probably in the Autumn. Should be a nice phone. Great hardware, no Symbian or Android in sight!
