its that attitude and tolerance of unprofessional behavior in banking /poltics etc that has brought ireland into the mire , so having a professional police force would be a start , then maybe bankers , politicians etc etc , who knows by 2075 we might have politicians /bankers / police etc with a level of professionalism and behavior thats the norm in many country's today

Never for one second did I say I condone what was said as you well know.

Yes they should be punished and yes it was a stupid thing to say but they have not committed a crime nor were they intending and so they should not be treated like criminals nor be subject to the ridiculous reactions being given.

Gardai dont get respect from the public, because they dont give it.

And you know this from personal experience? Or are you just jumping on the bandwagon like most people do?

    Huh

But you said they should not be allowed joke like this while off duty. So it is ok now is it?

well unless we micro chip all gardai with recorders we wont know will we , would micro chipping work under some their thick skins ?

Storms and teacups. The politically correct mob baying for sackings p1ss me off more than all the corruption (Callelly, Lowry et al.) in government.

That's just a comical response, punish them, but don't punish them too hard or talk about it, it was only a joke by what sounds like 3 bunch o teenage lads who probably shouldn't be switchboard operators let alone members of An Garda Siochana.

    Hilarious

Listen to the recording and you'll see they are simply joking around. I do honestly think they meant any offense to any rape victim or to the protesters.

This is something you keep repeating.. just because they didn't mean for it to cause offence does not mean that people were not offended. Just because they did not intend to actually rape the woman does not mean that what they said should be any more acceptable in the eyes of rape victims.

How can you not understand that? You keep going on about self righteousness etc, but tbh I think you're the one being self righteous by using your own opinions on the matter to justify why everyone else should just forget about it.

That's fair enough, so your first point that I questioned was obviously not thought out, like I asked.

If you'd bothered to properly read what I said you would know that I believe they need to punsihed as severly as the case warrents. However I don't think it warrents them losing their jobs, their families, their credibility and being disgraced for the rest of lives.

Get off your pedestal before you fall.

I understand that perfectly actually. I just think people need a little perspective.

I've said several times it was a stupid idiotic thing to say but it was never intended to go beyond the car and the way the whole thing was handled was completely wrong.

Of course it's not acceptable but the reaction to it is just over the top.

    their families
    Why their families?
Do their families hate Rape jokes or something?
    , their credibility
And what about the credibility of mature and respectful Gardai who find something like that unwarranted and unprofessional?
and being disgraced for the rest of lives.
    :pac:
    By whom?

Get off your pedestal before you fall.
No thanks, i like it up here.

Oh god get grip will you.

Personally I think a formal apology to the women and perhaps a reprimand from the Commisoner(or some-one high up in the Force) that go on record would suffice.

    Which ones?
The two protestors, or the hundreds of rape victims?

I think anyone who makes a mistake should be punished accordingly. As the song says " Make the punishment fit the crime".

Calling for these Gardai to be fired etc is over the top imo but of course since I apparently have a vested interest what would I know?

Perhaps you should go back to first pages of the thread to see the origins of that one.

Their credibility is just fine. It will be even better when the muppets on the recording are disciplined.

Well, I didn't ask that question, you did. From what I know these dealt with the people professionally and they would have had no reason for complaint had the tape not surfaced.

But, yeah we don't live in an ideal world and there will be eejits in every walk of life, and there's no way of changing that.

So we should Threaten them with dismissal many times, and laugh like little kids afterwards.

It never ceases to amaze the absolute hyper hysterical reaction topics involving the Gardai (even remotely) get on Boards.

The usual high horse brigade are out I see weeping and gnashing their teeth and hoping somebody will please think of the children.

A couple of Gardai blowing off steam among themselves leads to faceless holier than thou, morally superior plebs condemning them as monsters who should be all but hung, drawn and quartered. The fact that those same Gardai receive some of the most hateful bile you can imagine being thrown at them daily up there has no bearing on it. Who remembers the "documentary" by Paul Williams. Drivel that it was it none the less showed some of the sh!te the Gardai had to deal with. One memorable quote "they did not kill half enough of ye fu@kers up there" being screamed by a purple faced lunatic, which referring to the IRA killing members of the Gardai.

I don't remember seeing any of you Joe Duffy apostles on here defending the Gardai after that. That right there makes you a Hypocrite or does it just suit your particular political slant of things to have a go at the Gardai over a non issue like this while turning the other cheek when its the reverse situation?

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET A GRIP PEOPLE.
    well said i totally aggree...

any time ive had the unfortunate time of talking to a Garda, they have the attitude of a ******.

If everytime you deal with the Gardai they come across as a......s do you not wonder if you are the problem and not them? I mean no offense but I find it hard to believe every Garda you've encountered in your life was a twat.

Do you maybe get a little shirty with them or give them lip or refuse to co-operate or just treat them in a way they might take a disrespectful?

Again no offense meant, just something to think about.

I meant simply that yes they should be punished but the severity of the punishment should be relative to the severity of the crime.

Not that hard to understand tbh.
