I just ask the stupid bastards for a 12' cold-cut combo with everything on it and a cola to take away. They're afraid to ask any more questions after that for fear of getting a "which part of everything didn't you understand, you freakin' womble?"

And what bread would you like that on?

Guys its a technique called upselling. Annoying as it may be. Folks are just trying to do their job. When you have pleasant customers like some of the folk on this thread 0_o talkng to you all day every day you can understand how repetative it can be.

    Give it a rest.

Seriously cannot understand the popularity of Subway. I know, I know, different strokes, but anything I've ever got there has been so tasteless. Tends to just taste of whatever condiment you chose.

Maybe the Subways near you are just shite? Seriously though, some of the ones in Cork can be dodgy, but there are two or three which are nearly always fresh! I love the different meats in the Italian BMTs, I love the different bread rolls, the condiments and the jalapenos!!

Go marry it if I love it so much?

..I'd shag Subway if I could.

I've been Subways all over the place, I usually just go in for convenience if I just need something to fill me and it's the only option. It's not the freshness that is in question, I just find the meats to be of pretty inferior quality.

Got a meatball marinara the other day with onions, lettuce, spicy cheese, jalapenos and chipotle sauce. I wasn't a huge fan before, but it was amazing. Absolutely blew my hangover away.

There is nothing wrong with my palate, I just have different tastes to you.

The fact you can take something like their bread fresh from the oven and call it rotten suggests to me you have some ulterior motive for such blanket statements.

can i have a spicy chicken fillet roll with just butter and red sauce, no salads???

would you like spicy or plain..

    do you want butter

    do you want any salads..

    do you want any sauces...

    :mad::mad::mad:

You do realise theyve alot more on their mind than your one order. Better to take it step by step and get it right. Id sooner be asked than have a mistake made. Odd moron puts cheese/butter on mine without asking. Unforgiveable

The bread is fine, admittedly. The meat is not. Tasteless. (apart from excessive salt)

I've never eaten a Subway sandwich. I find the idea of eating mechanically seperated, re-formed meats absolutely disgusting.

Keep it that way. I tried it once out of curiosity and all the subsequent times have just been when nothing else was available. (eg. the only place still open in an airport)

It really is underwhelming and tasteless, apart from tasting of your chosen condiment.

Different strokes etc. It's a convenient take away and a much nicer option than popping into MacDonalds for a Big Mac. You may not like it but it's certainly not rotten.

It's a cheap take away option though, you're hardly expecting imported Italian sausage meats - well I'm not and as I said, it's much nicer than the other take away options in the city. Even just from looking at other sandwich bars it's much nicer, in my opinion anyway.

Love the way people always bring up Maccie D's for comparison. Everyone knows McD's is shít. There are plenty of places to go to other than McD's and Subway.

Disagree there, it's very easy to find nicer for the same price or maybe slightly more. I'd happily pay slightly more for something nice.

    1. Stay away from Subway
    2. Live a lot longer
    3. Pay some tax*
    4. Profit

    *Only students eat at Subway

There used to be a really nice deli in ennis that did proper sandwiches with proper chicken and proper butter and proper bread.
Then subway bought the building (cause the owner died or something) and now there's just crap.

    I miss Jim Nevins deli.
    it was so good.

    Ban billionaires

I have. It was what I got the first time because I heard so much about it. Tasteless, bland meatballs, the only discernible taste being excessive salt, and bland sauce. Yeah, the bread was fresh, but the filling was bad.

You poor craythur! :) Where do you prefer take away out of curiousity?

I love MacDonalds actually. Yeah I know what you're thinking. I also love love love HillBillies. Mmmm salt and grease. :o

I do prefer Subway though. It's fine that you don't agree, it has been said different strokes for different folks but I brought up MacDonalds because it's so well known as an alternative. They're both cheap, they're both quick fillers for a nice shopping day. IMO Subway is a better alternative but it's just that - opinion. I want Subway right now. Canteen food - now that's shite.

I never know whether to start with the type of bread or the filling first.

Used to go to a deli with the most appalling staff member, you'd ask for chicken salad..end up with ham salad.

Another day you'd try to make it simple & just ask for plain ham with butter or something..she'd put mayo on it.

Finally gave up going there when i asked for just sausages..nothing else..how simple can you get...got back to work & she'd given me garlic sausages

Just can't get decent staff these days :D

There's a deli around the corner from my old house which is almost impossible to get an order right in. All the girls behind the counter are eastern european. They're cute, but they don't speak a word of english between them. I usually get a smoothie with my sandwich (a sandwich you almost have to fight for, if you want it made right). They tell me it's a smoothie, and charge me the full smoothie price, but really, it's just orange juice with a micro amount of other ingredients. Just tastes like orange juice though.

Don't get the smoothie, so. ;)

Me in Spar last week: "Can I have a breakfast roll -- everything on it?"
    "Everything?"
    "Eh... yup!"
    "Did you see everything?"
    "Yeah"
    "So you want mushrooms?"
    "Sure. I like Mushrooms."
"Well I wasn't to know that."

    That's where the conversation ended.

What I was thinking, though, was: A) the fact that I fcuking said "everything" should have been a giveaway. And B) why the fcuk sell them as part of a breakfast roll, if your assumption is that nobody likes the fcuking things.

    /finally out of my system!!!

Subway is delicious. Honey oat bread is the nicest bread ever. There's a few dodgy places around dublin alright but a couple of really well run ones too with staff who *shock horror* can actually speak english besides "CHEESE TOASTED??"
