A device has exploded under a car in the Highfield Close area of Omagh, Co Tyrone.

A police officer is understood to have been caught up in the incident.

The device exploded under the vehicle outside his home in Highfield Close, off the Gortin Road, in Omagh, Co Tyrone, just before 4pm today.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland have been unable to immediately confirm if there were any casualties.

The area has been sealed off and the PSNI are investigating.

A police officer is in a critical condition after a bomb exploded under his car in Omagh, County Tyrone.

The device exploded under the vehicle outside his home in Highfield Close, off the Gortin Road, just before 1600 BST on Saturday.

It is not clear if there have been any other casualties.

Since 2007, dissidents republican have planted dozens of booby-trap bombs under the private cars of police officers.

The bombs usually fail to detonate and have killed nobody.

But two policemen have lost their legs in attacks in May 2008 and January 2010.

I would like to see a link to the story, but if this is true, let all those involved in this attack suffer an incredibly violent and painful death...

I dont understand why these people can simply not move on, the troubles, the violence, the bombs, should all be consigned to history by now.

The current generations should not be faced with this, and whilst there are those that are easily influneced by this kind of thing, there will never be peace on this Island.

Neither the SKY, BBC, or RTE sites are reporting a death, all saying he's critical. Either way, hope he pulls through to a recovery.

It's confirmed that an officer who recently completed his training has died. Comfirmed on several news stations.

Thoughts and prayers with his family and the police family.
