Jaysus, wouldn't it be awful if some of those TD's got their heads caught in this.

If that's a door, I wouldn't like to be your postman.

I always thought these 'supermarket doors' were operated by two midgets on either side of an elaborate pulley system...:D

I suppose this could happen during a guillotine motion.

Upon coming across revolving doors in the future the kid will freeze and stare blankly into the distance.

There isn't enough shame in the world today. Back when I were a kid if you did something like that your parents would beat you for embarrassing them.

He dashed in after her and his head got trapped between the door and the frame.

There's the problem. As kids we were taught to treat revolving doors with all due respect. No dashing, crowding, messing.

wow, a TD with a son who could'nt work out the revolving door system in the Dail, even a thick like conor lenihan managed it.

I wouldn't mind so much if this was one of those automatic revolving doors (like in one of the buildings on St. Stephen's Green near the shopping centre - you stand in it and it revolves around you - futuristic!). But this is a regular revolving door.

What next? TD's child gets finger stuck in the hinges of a household door? Ban household doors!! Child falls over toy - ban toys. Child falls over other child. BAN CHILDREN!!! ...

Actually... I'd be ok with that.

Where does it say that it's not an automatic one? The main revolving door in Leinster House is automatic, that could be the one that was involved.

In fairness to the kid, and I know we're just having a bit of craic at the kids expense.. But its a very heavy revolving door, and even for an adult it can be hard to slow down or even stop it if someone rushes through it.

To the right of it (as you enter the building) there's a doorway, however its rarely open.

Usually TD's sons only get their foot in the door.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

    No its not.

Yes it is - I'm talking about the door into the building with all the TD offices. Not the one you can see from the street. Unless they've changed it within the last few weeks.

There's definitely an automatic revolving door on the front of one of the new buildings in there where the committee rooms are housed.

If it's dangerous, then it's dangerous and the TD has a point and should by all means make a complaint.

I've always thought that automatic revolving doors are dangerous. They are risky for kids who might do something like this kid has done but they are also very difficult for someone who is blind/partially sighted or who has mobility issues e.g. wheelchair bound, movement difficulties or perhaps very elderly.

It seems a bad choice of door for a public building.

Bare in mind, these buildings are intended for public access i.e. people visiting TDs on legitimate business, people attending committees or viewing them, academic researchers, journalists, etc etc all have reason to be there.

There's nothing stopping a visitor bringing a kid in with them either, particularly if they're visiting a TD or senator.

There are also regularly school tours and other groups going through those buildings.

Buildings should be safe. It doesn't really matter if they're Leinster House or a shopping centre.

No if was some ejit like Michael Healy-Rae I'd understand but the poor kid I feel sorry for after having a similar experience as a child, except my hand got caught in one of those flappy rubbish bins. I do really dislike revolving doors and consider them quite dodgy.

Those automatic revolving doors are powered by a motor at the top and they're supposed to have sensors to prevent this kind of accident.

They'd want to get it checked out for malfunctions!

Unlike some parties' TDs not everyone using Leinster House has a brass neck and might not survive an encounter with such a door.
