I know, but there's very little humour in what is being said in fairness

I don't think I've seen any of her work that was any good other than the grand national one. Truly the Jordan of her day.

because you haven't seen any of her work, she is a reality tv luddite?
that's quite the jump- (although she did have truly giant jabbies).

****, all the old classics are on their way out.

How long before Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford go too :(

Clint has years left. I remember seeing his mother at the oscars a few years back. I think she has died since though.

She was a child/teen actress in the 30s/40s/50s (Velvet is 1944, anyway, and I'm not sure how long before/after that she was working as that's the only movie I've access to at the moment). A star, in her day. It's a bit sad nobody recognizes her for anything except random media appearances, am I the only one of my generation who knows who she is from seeing her films? :(

She was much more than a child actress.

She won 2 Oscars and numerous other awards.

Who's afraid of Virginia Wolfe and Cleopatra come to mind as 2 of her most memorable movies.

She got to have sex with Richard Burton - she married him twice he was that good. Lucky cow. She was exquisitely beautiful when young - and iconic looking (google "elizabeth taylor cat on a hot tin roof") but jeesh, thanks to the hard living, she was fairly wrecked by not even 40. She seemed like an awful whingey diva all right though.
A gay icon also - even one of her husbands, Montgomery Clift, was gay.

Whist, Harrison is not even in his seventies yet!

    Is he?

    Late 60's I think.
Still, can't be too long really.

    The screen classics are going.

Oh, I know, I just figured I'd give some background as her early stuff is the stuff I've seen and adored, I wasn't implying that was all she did.

I actually have no idea what she did except show up in the media all the time

Says more about you than her :) She did a lot to raise awareness about AIDS back when sufferers were treated badly and the disease got feck all funding for research. She made some good films and used her fame well.

I totally agree, RIP Elizabeth, but she was never married to Montgomert Clift, they were in two films together and were friends but never married!!!

In fairness she seemed to have as many lives as she had husbands, what with all the ill health problems, 79 is a good innings.

    RIP. Another golden oldie gone.

it really makes me wonder if there is a god, when I see him taking one so young.

seriously - who cares - she's not related to us - we won't miss her - we didn't even think about her since she made an appearance with michael jackson and bubbles. It will happen to us all.

I don't do R.I.Ps either and no, I'm not sad, but it's hardly inappropriate to talk about the life of someone who left a mark in popular culture.
