    RIP Liz Taylor.

She had been married 8 times.

Yawn! who cares, her only notable contribution is as a prototype of the modern vain, self-obsessed and publicity desperate celebrity.

****, all the old classics are on their way out.

How long before Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford go too :(

That's true Invincible, but she was pretty iconic - and not terribly old at all by today's standards.

She contributed a lot to her industry, and that should be respected

Oh wow, how sad :( I grew up watching her movies. Have National Velvet on my harddrive, think I might give that a watch tonight.

She was a great actress in her heyday, and a beautiful one at that. Unusual violet eyes. May she rest in peace.

She was a child/teen actress in the 30s/40s/50s (Velvet is 1944, anyway, and I'm not sure how long before/after that she was working as that's the only movie I've access to at the moment). A star, in her day. It's a bit sad nobody recognizes her for anything except random media appearances, am I the only one of my generation who knows who she is from seeing her films? :(

I'll always remember her as Mrs Andrews in Captain Planet and the planeteers

I don't think I've seen any of her work that was any good other than the grand national one. Truly the Jordan of her day.

because you haven't seen any of her work, she is a reality tv luddite?

Clint has years left. I remember seeing his mother at the oscars a few years back. I think she has died since though.

She was much more than a child actress.

She won 2 Oscars and numerous other awards.

Who's afraid of Virginia Wolfe and Cleopatra come to mind as 2 of her most memorable movies.

She got to have sex with Richard Burton - she married him twice he was that good. Lucky cow. She was exquisitely beautiful when young - and iconic looking (google "elizabeth taylor cat on a hot tin roof") but jeesh, thanks to the hard living, she was fairly wrecked by not even 40. She seemed like an awful whingey diva all right though.
A gay icon also - even one of her husbands, Montgomery Clift, was gay.

    Late 60's I think.
Still, can't be too long really.

    The screen classics are going.

Oh, I know, I just figured I'd give some background as her early stuff is the stuff I've seen and adored, I wasn't implying that was all she did.

Says more about you than her :) She did a lot to raise awareness about AIDS back when sufferers were treated badly and the disease got feck all funding for research. She made some good films and used her fame well.
