Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just tried this, and it set me up as a basic level membership (Blue, not silver). Have contacted BMI to see if they will change it to Silver per the link, and will post the results.:(

Did you click the 'join diamond club' red button on the right?
If you clicked on the left side of the screen that does not work for the promotion.

As far as I know you can claim miles on flights already booked but not yet taken. On the United Airlines site you should be able to manage your booking, change passenger details etc, and its on that page that you usually add your frequent flier number. Alternatively, there is a link on the bmi diamond club page when you are logged in that lets you claim missing miles. Definitley worth a shot. Enjoy Vegas!

Bump for anyone with an explanation as to different results?

If you click on a button on the right side the correct code for this offer was used and you are silver.

If you clicked on the menu item on the left to join (while the button the right was visible) you got 1000 miles instead of silver.

If you click on the menu item on the left ot join now that the button on the right is gone (because this has offer has been taken away) you again get only 1000 miles.

There was a work arround by entering the correct code into the field, however this is not longer valid.

Think you may be getting confused, whilst the programme is called Diamond Club the levels on offer are only silver or blue?

Be prepared to have your silver status downgraded to blue. Just got this today.

    Dear xxx

We're pleased to see that you recently joined our Diamond Club frequent flyer programme. However, I'm writing to you because unfortunately the link you used to join was an exclusive by invitation only offer and as noted in our terms and conditions was non transferable.

Regrettably, we will not be honouring the Silver status, and over the next few days your account will be downgraded to Blue status. Our decision is final, and we won't be entering into any further correspondence on this. On a positive note though, our frequent flyer programme is one of the most generous programmes around, and you only need to earn 16,000 membership status miles to earn a Silver membership. When you fly with us, or any of the Star Alliance airlines, you'll reach Silver status in no time at all. You'll also have access to all our offers and promotions, as well as being the first to hear about our great sale fares. We hope you'll still enjoy the benefits of your Diamond Club membership.

    Regards

    Keeley Downing
    Diamond Club Manager

I just got this as well.

Yup, just got the same. It's a shame they won't stand over it, I can only presume that an absolute ton of people signed up once the link got around. I feel bitter though, cos I've booked flights with BMI and their partners US Airways for two trips in April, based purely on having Silver status on the program. In both cases, neither were the cheapest flying option available.

    Yep, here too.

Will respond asking to be withdrawn from any BMI database and request written confirmation of such.

@robbie1876, that's a major pain in the ass

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 224 ✭✭leuler

I think you have to write to them in order to stop them using your data and to terminate your account if that is what you want.

    In the terms and conditions
    10. Data Protection
    4. Consent under clause 10.1 will be deemed to continue until a member writes to bmi Diamond Club, PO Box 5050, Annesley, Nottingham, NG15 0DL to withdraw consent. Withdrawal of consent may mean that certain services and benefits may no longer be provided to the member, and also entitle bmi to terminate membership immediately.

    11. Termination
    5. You may terminate your membership by writing to bmi Diamond Club, PO Box 5050, Annesley, Nottingham, NG15 0DL stating that you no longer wish to be a member and enclosing your Card.

This looks more like a case of BMI bulking up their user database and information than a real giveaway. In hindsight there was no way BMI were going to give away these Silver club benefits through a reusable link.

If it looks (way) too good to be true it usually is :(

This in no ways takes away from the OPs good intentions in posting the link.

Got the email yesterday too, I checked this morning and it has been downgraded.

I suggest emailing the Manager who sent the email. I've already sent one. BMI staff's emails are their firstname.lastname@flybmi.com

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,766 ✭✭✭robbie1876

I've emailed the Diamond Club manager with my thoughts also, not expecting a reply. To add insult to injury, when they downgraded me to Blue status, I now have zero miles - what happened to the 1000 miles for signing up to Blue membership, as per https://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/loyalty-programmes/diamond-club/diamond-club.aspx

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 224 ✭✭leuler

I have done the same, sent to Keeley.Downing@flybmi.com and also not expecting a reply, reckon it's going to cost the price of a UK stamp and the time to write a letter to them to get out of this freebie.

Will anyone who does get an email reply to terminating their account and/or withdrawing consent to use their personal data please post it here?
I want to do it without the letter if possible.

Will give it a day or so and then post the letter if no joy.

Make sure you at least go into your account details and amend your postal address to something suitably witty.

BMI also have a twitter account http://twitter.com/flybmi and a facebook account if you wish to make a public request www.facebook.com/flybmi

Probably not the place to admit it but I'm not on twitter or facebook :o
Will have to rely on good old fashioned email.

This offer went viral around the world. They must have had thousands join up.

A quick google search shows it in USA, Australia, New Zealand, load of UK sites and continental sites especailly spcialist airline flyer sites such as flyer talk.

Seems it started with a blogger pasting details up, someone then took the details but omitted that it was by invitation only and then someone else took them etc etc etc and within a few days it was worldwide.

As BMI never gave / sent a general email to people or advertised this in anyway, there's zilch anyone can do about it.

BMI gave this response to 'flyertalk'

'The link was only on printed application forms which members would have received directly from a bmi representative.

Anyone that has used this link will be verified and, if they did not have receive the offer from a bmi representative, will not be upgraded to silver.'

    Anyone else get theirs?

    Well confused now

Actually thats the key thing, what the website says you are. What colour card you have isn't hugely important (if you earned the points to qualify you for the next level, you can usually claim most of the benefits before the physical card arrives).
