Like less than empathetic people being offended by threads with normal empathy?

I never said I was offended, I just dont understand why people are like this

If I was black I would have the right to defend black people in regards to racial slurs, but as Im white I can only defend my own corner

You could consider becoming an anti-racist and then you would be part of a community that opposes all racial slurs.

    Just a thought.

No - as its not to my friend specifically, its targeted to a group that my friend happens to be a part of , but as I am not friends with him specifically based on the fact that hes black , nor does him being black affect our friendship I am not allowed be offended
First, a statement that all black people are inferior IS a direct insult to an individual black person. You do see that right?:D

So, you can only be offended if the slur relates to the direct basis of your friendship or affects your friendship...? How does that work?
    it doesnt as explained above
I dont think you have explained it all. Want to try again?
I think you can defend your own race based on yourself without being a eugenacist , If I was black I would have the right to defend black people in regards to racial slurs, but as Im white I can only defend my own corner

Why? So being caucasian gives you equivalent insight on the question of the inferiority of caucasians as a eugenecist has on the question of the inferiority of blacks?

So white people can only defend slurs against their own race? Is that really your position? Have you though this through?:D

When you tell someone that they're full of sh/t, you're the one making it personal.

The ideal situation would be if nobody was ever offended by anything.

The world would be a much happier place.

Im just going to simplify this for you

defend your own race and yourself , defend your friends and family when it comes to personal insults (not race or anything else they cant change) and thats it ,

What if the personal insult is about something they can't change, like a big nose? Where does the defenceometer stand on that one?

I can kind of see where Eric Cartman is comming from!

How come people are very sensitive and emotional about whats happening in Japan(which is devestating), But don't care in the slightlist about whats happening in africa were millions of people are dying of starvation, kids are getting ganged raped daily as they go to school, people are forced to mine so that we can buy diamonds, electronics, oil.

I dont think that simplifies anything!:D

First, is a statement that you are inferior because of your race not a 'personal insult'?

Second, is it only an insult if the statement is aimed at something you can change? (ie. is a statement that my wife is stupid because she is a woman not an insult simply because she cannot change her gender?)

Third, why can you only defend your own race and your own family & friends? Why can you not defend your fellow citizens?

Fourth, so you can defend people who are not your family and friends, if they belong to your race?!!

Have you thought any of this through?

In this situation when i tell them they are full of ****e i am giving my view.

Like the over the top view they felt the need to let the world know.

In the morning if my mother died i would rather a person did nothing then fill my head and everyone elses with pure crap about how sorry they are and how amazing she was and so on even though they had no connection to her in any way at all and didnt even know her.

So whats the difference in a person over doing the emotions and almost looking for thanks in a thread about Japanese and there problems?

I never said you were either.
It was a general statement about posters like the OP who are, if not offended, definitely bothered by the whole thing.

You say you merely can't understand it.
    OK that's a pity.
    So what.

Because its not the cool and fresh thing to be sad about right now.

This is just the current flavour for people to cry about there be something new again in few weeks or months.

lol well you wont know because the media will not care and not make a fuss about it :)

There will be no facebook pages for you to like and will be no chain mail sent to your friends in work to pray for my family will there?? :)

Maybe if the world took every problem as serious as the last i might give more of a **** about everything.

mild whiff of troll off you at this stage, but ill entertain you

its not a personal insult if it affects more than 1 person

im not saying that racial/ sexist slurs arent insults , but if theyre not insults to you / your race then you have no right to be offended by them

I think people closest to you are more of a concern than the public at large, by your logic I should go and kill all the jews because they defend isreal and isreal attacks the muslims

Are you serious? Your family are degenrate inferior scumbags..... No insult because I am offending more than one person, right...?!!:D:rolleyes:

Ok, so you do accept that a racial slur can be an insult even though it is something that you cannot change...... were you mistaken when you said the opposite earlier on.....?!
Can you explain why, then, you have any right to be offended when your black friend is insulted, since any insult is not about you or your race? You are flip flopping all over the place ehre!:D
I think people closest to you are more of a concern than the public at large, by your logic I should go and kill all the jews because they defend isreal and isreal attacks the muslims
Now you are saying that you can be offended when people closest to you are offended, but you have just finished saying that you cannot be offended by insults that are not aimed at you or your race?

Are you talking about the biggest earthquake in the history of the third biggest economy in the world, with emergencies at nuclear power plants growing more critical by the minute?

Worth taking seriously by my book.

    only my ma's side... :D

Ill make you a list :

insult to yourself, your family or friends (NOT based on race/gender/stereotypes/social class/anything they cant realistically change) that is targeted only at that person - ok to be offended

insult towards your own race - ok to be offended

everything else - not ok to be offended

So, now you cannot be offended by gender insults again....? Seriously have you thought any of this through? At all?:D

If I say that all blacks are inferior, I am targeting that insult directly at each and every black person - no exceptions. Do you really fail to see that?
insult towards your own race - ok to be offended

But you can relistically change that, so why can you be offended by it? You just said that you couldnt be offended by an insult to your race in your last sentence!!

    This is hilarious!:D

the items in the (NOT) bracket do not mean you cant be offended by them, just that they arent in the list for that item,

Ill agree, your lack of logic and basic concepts with words as well as my lack of decent word use is hillarious, your lucky I actually have absolutely nothing better to do

Have a look at the analysis on the news websites. It's all there. You can make up your own mind whether it is important or not, but if you think it isn't, stick to gossip from your immediate family.

    What does that mean?

Can you be offended by a racial or gender insult to:
    1. you
    2. a member of your family
    3. a friend
    4. anyone else

I have being following this since i found out about it mid Friday i have being watching news online and on tv and following the thread on here.

Now i happen to follow alot of situations in history as i find them of interest.

Thats how serious i would take it im not gonna be one of these people who donates or gets all emotional and has to have my ''serious emotional views'' thanked and agreed with cause far as im concerned this and many many other situations in this world we live in where awful but they personally did not affect me and im sorry but i cant just switch on the feelings when i dont have them.

Eric, a friend of yours or a family member, or somebody else, is clearly insane and feeding you this nonsense which they make up as they go along.

    No offence to you, obviously.

So you cannot be offended by a statement targetted at your sister that, by virtue of her gender, she is inferior to men and should therefore subject herself to any man?

But you can be offended by a statement targetted at your sister that she is ugly?

    Is that your position?

If you are against insinscere, mawkish, sentimentality, and automatic assumptions that you should share certain views, then I am on your side on that score and it doesn't make you any less human.

But maybe you should reflect on the fact that people react to things in different ways. This event is a biggie, and some of the scenes that were shown on television that were live have not been shown again because they were so traumatic.
