XF-S vs. 535d

We all know that the 535d is a cracking car (So much that some people pretend to own one:D) but the only manufacturer to really take the fight to them is Jaguar with the XF diesel S and I have great admiration for that.

it's a tiny bit behind the F10 535d now but hopefully the facelift later this year will rectify that.

But which would you have XF-S or 535d? feel free to specify E60 or F10.

Jag without a doubt, the interior is 10x better.

Id want to want the Jag, if I was in the market for such a car I would certainly test drive one.
I already know what the 535d is like.

If you could have interior of Jag and exterior of e60 535 that would be perfect.Although the Jag looks good too.Ahhh feck it ill have both:)

I'm biased so won't bother commenting!

    Do love the 535d though.

The XF-S is good - especially if you spec the dynamics pack option.

Basically you end up with an XFR chassis and body.

Surprising how quick they both are too, having driven an XF-S in anger following a 2008 XK 4.2 V8 normally aspirated.........well the XF was quicker really!

As an owner of a 535d I am biased. I can only speak about the 535d as I have never driven the Jag. It is a cracking car - I have said before that it is one of the best all round cars on the road. I have driven it to the Nurburgring in convoy with some stripped out e34 M5s and a Carrera S and it more than held it's own on the journey. I do a mix of motorway and city driving and it will deliver 30-35mpg all day long.

It is on run-flats and a lot of people don't like that - personally it doesn't bother me at all and they can always be changed.

The Jag can look really good and it has had some cracking reviews so I can only imagine that for some it will be a match for the 535d, however for me I would be quite happy to choose the 535d over it

love the F10 and bmw in general, but the road is already littered with 520ds. The Jag is a lot rarer and 'special' as they aren't everywhere you look with small engines dressed up with body kits.

So for now I'd have the Jag if buying new.

I've never driven a 535d, but even the 530d is a cracking car (E60, haven't seen any F10 530's yet), but I have driven this bad boy:

For all the BMW has going for it, it just isn't a Jag. That might make the BMW more desireable for some people, but for me it's the XF-S all the way.

Currently saving my pennies for when this comes back in 2013. Premium Luxury version - the driver has taste ;)

Jesus, I'd be very happy with either! That jag is beautiful though.

That Jag looks much better than the XFR in the other thread

How was it to drive? Was it the 3.0d or 3.0d s? I'd imagine you can't entirely divulge information about the owner but could you tell me what line of business he's in or what his job is? Have to say I'm wondering what job commands such a sweet company car!

Yeah, I think the XF-S with the aerodynamics pack looks much nicer than the XFR.

The new standard interior for the XF-S is pretty nice aswell, think it's probably my favourite interior! Side bolsters are electrically adjustable too!

525D hands down (sure with a re map lad its as fast as an M5)

I must say I'd be tempted to buy a XF if you could get rid of the stupid veneer options they have.

The XF is a beautiful looking car.

F10 535 hands down, own neither, driven both, no comparison.

The Jag will depreciate like a rock, it just doesn't have that "I'll be as sturdy after 200K miles feel" it feels made up.

    Jag! They're gorgeous...

Although a new, white, M pack? 535d passed me on the motorway today... Absolutely gorgeous

Unfortunately, when I delivered that car it was wet, so I was taking it very, very easy. It a XF 3.0d S Premium Luxury and we'll just say he's the Irish Boss of a mulitnational.

He test drove the standard car before deciding, and that felt slower than the 525d (3.0 litre engine) that was his previous car, so decided to go for the S.

Only problem with the jag is that from certain angles it reminds me of a mondeo. The BMW is unmistakeable.

    Bro has a xf 2.7d i have a 520d both 70k... Same power !!! 520 more mpg
jag quieter BMW far bigger in back and boot .. Jag feels like it's done 150 k BMW feelS new !!!!! But I always feel like i'm driving a taxi next to his Aston

Jag all the way - still such a beautiful design 3 years on plus the interior is such a nice place to be.

Surprised the Jag is so far ahead given the BMW fanboi-ism in here. :D

Well having been in the lucky position to have a drive uin both cars last year the XF was my favourite to drive. Its miles ahead of the Bimer.

    I'm not a BMW fanboy-seriously :D

The Jag is beautiful looking, I'm not sold on whats under the bodywork & more to the point how its put togeather.

It would be the XF for me, the billions Ford invested in Jaguar, really shows in the XF diesel. It's hard to compare Jaguars with mass produced cars.

Nice! What do you estimate it's cost to be in 2013? Think I'll be in the market around then if things go according to plan, wouldn't mind snatching myself a similar model!

It's quite worrying that he found it slower than the 525d considering it has significantly higher bhp and torque.

I've also heard that the XF-S doesn't feel as quick as a 535d. Can anyone who has driven both confirm if this is true or false??

P.S. cheers for the poll addition -chris- and mods
