at this hour of the night its pretty hard to get a laugh outta me, but that article fails on so many levels it only managed a mere chuckle. im nearly too tired to pick it apart and post, but what the hell:
Every weekend, more and more Irish males seem to have a European stunner -- one of the 120,000 non-Irish living here -- on their arm.

article starts off badly, a subjective view backed up by a figure she pulled out of thin air!
Sam explains: "Going out with an Irish girl can get a bit boring. By dating Katherina, it is great to have a separate place where you can go and be accepted.

depends on how much fun you are to be with yourself!
It's like a special offer, buy Katherina, and get Austria extra free!

even russianbrides.ru isnt offering a deal like that! shows how much he thinks of her!
I've always liked explaining Ireland to Katherina and her family. It makes you appreciate where you come from.

says the guy who doesnt want anything to do with irish girls, sounds to me like he wants to disown his own culture rather than embrace it!
She admires Roddy Doyle and Tommy Tiernan, enjoys putting on an Irish accent.

same as above, attempts to disown her own culture, seems like they may be well matched after all!
Eli says: "Polish girls are more understanding and more supportive of things within a relationship. I also find they are less materialistic.

Translation: Eli is a tight git!
"They know how to take care of themselves when it comes to health and fitness and they really know how to love a man the right way.

Eli has an awful ego problem. The "right" way? geez...
"Also Kamila has loved me in a way that I have never known before and I've been in many relationships" Eli says.

No great boast there, chances are they broke down due to your inflated ego.
Irish people have become greedy, self-centred and materialistic. Polish people are a lot more content with far, far less than the average Irish person.

Eli, tight git, excuses like that don't fly!

So anyway, then the article moves on to a single 25 year old irish man, who comes across in the article as a bit of a numpty, whereas the previous two couples (ages not given but from the photo i would assume they were older than 25) came across as educated well-spoken intellectuals (failed miserably, but i digress):

    Paul starts off with:
Truthfully, if I was to start going out with a foreign bird

shocking how HE's still single, eh?
Irish girls understand the importance of Croke Park on a Sunday to us fellows and the drinking culture which then continues into the night after a game

translation: "i'd have her tied to the kitchen sink!"

and he's still single, the mind truly boggles! :D

and then the author ends with:
So, all you Irish women out there, you can relax now -- we have been assured that there are still some Irish men who are happy to stick by local girls . . . just as long as we don't take on any of those foreign ways.

in my experience i dont think the irish women that i've met anyway, have ever been bothered enough to worry in the first place! :D

But I don't think the fact that there are fewer Irish girl/foreign dude relationships can be as simple as that they don't find us attractive. For me, the main worry would be what are the attitudes to women in the man's home country. Equality-wise, we don't have it too bad here in Ireland at all, and I really wouldn't want to take a step down from that.

there is that pervasive attitude of an inferiority complex in some people that is fed by their sense of entitlement and their "oh im so hard done by because i cant have what i want" mindset, fuelled by their ego.

in order to combat this, they seek out a person that they can feel superior to. this then makes them feel better about themselves. i have talked to many men and women from different cultures and backgrounds within those cultures, and we're pretty much all the same.

there are arrogant people in every walk of life, that feel they are entitled to a heightened respect from those around them. to this end, they seek out a subservient companion. this is not a cultural phenomenon, there are oppressors and subservients that transcend cultural boundaries.
With a language barrier, it would be harder maybe to figure out what his true views on women are. Does that make sense?

This isn't such an issue for men.

absolutely it makes sense, but i would imagine the language barrier would be the last interpretative means to discern the views of the opposite sex towards you, i would be more attuned to body language than the spoken word. actions speak louder than words as they say.

    this isnt such an issue for CERTAIN men, or women for that matter, but i understand where you're coming from, so in the spirit of the thread;

if you think he's shifty, get outta there nifty! :D:o

OK.. now I'm really tiring of this now!

This thread has just descended into blasting and silly mass generalisations of Irish women.

No more of this from now on!

Although I am enjoying the show on a whole I do find it quite cringetastic and the most cringiest part for me is when they go backstage to Shifters and yer woman opens the door with the big green gardening gloves on.......seriously are they really necessary??? If so could they not have given her a sparkly pair or something ya know something easy on the eye :p

P.S I think the "standard" of men is equal to the standard of girls......they are all average, nothing more or nothing less!!

hadnt noticed the garden gloves before, but its well established at this stage that the irish one is done on the cheap so wouldnt surprise me... :D

as for the contestants, both male and female, maybe its my own personal taste, but i think some of then are very good looking, and then some of them i wouldnt find attractive.

I agree some of them who come out and the lights go off i am baffled, and then others lights stay on and i am baffled.:D And then some of the girls the guys pick when they have loads of lights on i am baffled as a woman i wouldn't pick them if i was a lesbian.

And I really dont think the lads should sing......EVER!! I do be squirming with embarassment, if you can't sing like a star just leave it alone please...... no matter how good looking a bloke is, if he butchered a song on national tv I'd be too scarlet for him to keep my light on.....

Ah I do agree there have been some good looking girls on the show and likewise a few cute guys but I wouldn't have gotten over excited by any of them!!

And why for the love of God do they throw a poor lil old man to the lions every now and again......the panel does be like a lighthouse within seconds :(

well i'd imagine its not like they keep them caged up out the back "gladiator" style (though that would be funny!) :D

people seem to forget that the contestants go on this show voluntarily, so they understand and have to expect all the possible outcomes, including a possible wipeout.

x factor guy going to shifters with a 19yr old woulda been... < mental pictures > nooooo! *shudders* :o

    /QUOTE]

Hahahaha I now have an image of a little granda locked up in a cage being fed tea and ham sambos and then being shunted out onto a bright stage when viewing figures have dropped a bit!!! Poor lil man only wanted to find a nice cailín!!

Whats this about the fella from xfactor, did I miss an episode??

I know fellas go on voluntarily but lets face it some of them are quite delusional and actually think they are the best catch ever.....either that or they have gone on for a bet!!

    i'm a guy! :D

and not all irish girls are catholic, in fact this link will demonstrate that Poland (seems to be a popular country for comparisons to irish girls) is a far more catholic country than ireland in terms of population percentages, so the religious argument just doesnt hold water any more! ;)

now one must ask oneself- is it that irish girls i've met so far, are "socially inept", or is it me? they cant all be wrong! :D;)

Well if the religious concept doesn't hold any water, how do u explain why are some Irish women so socially challanged,

Was over in the UK last weekend and everyone was so friendly and relaxed and had a good laugh with loads of girls!:)

Maybe thats why ppl see such a difference between take me out uk and take me out ireland

Did you just dissect that article that I posted a link to at 2:30 this morning? That was quite odd! Are you sure you're a bloke? :p;)

In some senses it's very true as alot of girls went to all girl schools in Ireland that were run by nuns and I'm sure they tried to instill their own outdated, backwards beliefs into.

But in an overall sense the Catholic upbringing doesn't hold weight at all as countries such as Brazil & Italy have a booming adult entertainment and sex industries and those countries are considered more Catholic then Ireland.

Many Irish women are very conservative about sex still. I discovered this the hard way a few years ago when I was having a convo with my female college friends.

I was hungover at the time, and when hungover, I have no mental verbal filter and just say whatever the fúck occurs to me. :)

So I said "Oh, you know when you were, like 13, 14, and you started to get really interested in reading dirty novels and trying to catch glimpses of sex scenes on telly, and would actually search out dirty films in the TV Guide?"

I'm telling you the reaction from my friends was crickets, tumbleweed and every other "dying on your arse" metaphor going. Luckily I did have one or two likeminded friends as a teen who also admitted to this stuff, and the same is true now, but in general Irish wims won't discuss anything sexual.

i can just picture the scene, made me laugh anyway. i think though moreso it was the random outburst that made your friends think "what the...?", than the actual subject matter itself. perhaps under other circumstances and in a proper context, you could say the very same thing and none of your friends would bat an eyelid... :)

randomness sometimes gives me a laugh, have to be in the mood for it though... :)

it's like the way Olwyn goes on on the show, she comes across as random, ditzy, etc, even on the facebook page (*cringe*, cant stand facebook!) she's listed as take me out's dirty bitch or something, and she's funny, cute even, but the thing is, all the other girls will gladly let her claim that title because they would not wish to embarrass themselves on tv and never let live it down by their mates when they get home.

Olwyn seems to suffer from the same condition as yourself, only that she doesnt seem to have an "OFF" switch so she comes out with what might normally be deemed inappropriate simply because she doesnt care, and the producers have obviously let her run with it because it makes for an entertaining show that would be otherwise dull in her absence... :)

Yeah I think that's why people bring the Catholic issue up alot because they think it's the cause of some Irish women being conservative or as some people label it "prudish". It also highlights that some Irish girls can be quite fussy, I'm not saying this is right or wrong by the way, I'm just saying that some Irish guys feel that they have to tick more boxes to gain approval from an Irish girl then with their foreign counterparts. It's not really a big deal but it is something that definatley does exist on the Irish dating scene.

posting from mobile so bear with me, lol, but obviously there was something your EX didnt appreciate about you, hence why he's obviously your ex... obviously a bit of a numpty because you seem like a nice girl, would you ever consider applying for a spot if they did a third series of take me out? :) i can just imagine you'd be entertaining anyway! :D;)

It's not really about talking, it's about backing up talk with actions. I went to college in Dublin with lots of Irish girls who would always talk about sex and flirt like there was no tomorrow, but when it came to actually having sex, they had more excuses than a corrupt politician ;)

I did my masters in the UK and it was the polar opposite, infact I had more sex then I've ever had in my life over there.........then I met my British wife and the sex stopped (only joking dear! :D)

But seriously, the Irish dating scene is like a minefield littered with fragile egos mascaraing as domineers with faux confidence. I think every body should lighten up and realise that life is really short, so try to enjoy it while you can :)

There's need to be more outlets than meeting at either the pub/club or at work. Those are the two main places for adults in Ireland to meet these days.
