I'm not going to eat meat on Ash Wednesday. Only because I'll be having pancakes all day BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE PANCAKE TUESDAY, YOU CAN EAT THEM ANY DAY YOU DAMN WELL WANT TO!

I wasn't even aware it was Ash wednesday this week. I did however know pancake tuesday was tomorrow because they're delicious and I'm hoping someone will make me some.

I won't be eating meat, I guess it's the one catholic tradition I'm still clinging to

See, thats all it is. No biblical foundation for it. Its about as relevant as purgatory or transsubstantiation.

i'm trying to prove to him he won't be smited for eating meat and crisps during lent!

i always found this one of the most ridiculous catholic traditions, don't eat meat but fill up on fish

if you are going to fast do it properly, like NO food for 24hrs

I remember my father getting visibly angry that the canteen at college served meat on Ash Wednesday. As if everyone in my college was a Catholic, or gave a flying **** that it was Ash Wednesday

It's your fault I couldn't have burgers to eat on Ash Wednesday when I was a kid, had to make do with boiled eggs.....I hate you :pac:

Tho having said that I did love you again for the Easter Eggs, the presents at Xmas and the days off school for a 'Holy Day'

I suppose when I think about it, you're not a bad ould trout Jesus! :D

Maybe I should eat meat this Wednesday, its pretty much the last Catholic thing that I still follow, well because its more of a tradition as oppossed to any religious habbit for me.

That being said, I can live without having meat for 2 days of the year and as long as the fish being cooked is tasty, I won't mind.

So true of most Irish Catholics in relation to most aspects of Catholicism

why is it no matter how empty that place is you still end up waiting 25 minutes for your mediocre sandwich and your 7 chips in a bag?

This is actually a much bigger issue than religious influence on Irish dietary habits. Obviously I don't agree on the mediocrity comment as KFC is genetically engineered deliciousness, but how can there literally be 2 people in the queue ahead of you and it take 20 fookin minutes to get served, Then when you order it takes 2 seconds to get your food. What were you doing with those other 2 people .

I know a guy who on every Ash Wednesday brings his girlfriend and their kid out for meal with the sole purpose being that they eat meat and thus go against the Catholic tradition. The same fella is perhaps the most militant atheist I have ever encountered and genuinely thinks that by doing this he is somehow sticking it to the man.

Silly prick even brags about it as if anyone gives a crap.

I hear ya. Militant atheists really bug me shooting doctors who dont do abortions, flying their planes into Cathedrals, protesting outside family Unplanning Clinics. Scum
The next thing you know they will want to control most of our schools, influence licencing laws and stick thier nose into our constitutions, sex lives and who knows what else.

I wonder does he do it to wind you up though. Good enough reason .

I find the look of disgust from people in the sandwich queue funny when on Ash Wednesday you ask for ham. People dip in and out of religion whenever they want, but this one and Good Friday are the last 2 big ones, possibly with meat on Ash Wednesday worse than boozing on Good Friday.

going to do it, and if anyone dares say "it's ash wednesday" I'll say "do I look like a muslim to you?"
