I've been abstaining from the stuff for 13 years, but I might grab a Big Mac on Wednesday just to test God's wrath.

You won't even need to cook it, God's mighty bolt of Thunder will flame grill your meat-cocktail and you along with it.

Maybe I should eat meat this Wednesday, its pretty much the last Catholic thing that I still follow, well because its more of a tradition as oppossed to any religious habbit for me.

That being said, I can live without having meat for 2 days of the year and as long as the fish being cooked is tasty, I won't mind.

I used to do it until about 3 years ago and then I thought, "I don't even go to mass, why am I carrying on with this?" and I made the biggest ham sandwich ever.....the guilt made it taste better :p

I thought Ash Wednesday was the day for not smoking and that good Friday was day for not eating meat  Must dust off that old bible again and see what the rules say, can't be getting it wrong as every day is a day closer to reincarnation!

What about the ashes? Are people still getting them? It does be like Sean of the dead around this way with all the coffin dodgers shuffling around drooling caked in ash.

I'm off the meat, but it's more of a thing of looking at the belly and saying "I need a good excuse to exercise" so.....there.

I'm also holding it as a good excuse to go on a food binge tomorrow. PIZZACHINESEMCDONALDSSUPERMACSOMNOMNIOMNOMNOMNOM

Still OP, are you trolling for some Christian to come in and give theological reasons why they're doing it, while also giving people the excuse to say something on the lines of "I won't cos there's no God."

If that's the case, go faceplant into concrete.
At least can you edit the responses so that I don't have to call myself a darwin-denying bible-basher for not wanting to eat meat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,723 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I'm not going to eat meat on Ash Wednesday. Only because I'll be having pancakes all day BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE PANCAKE TUESDAY, YOU CAN EAT THEM ANY DAY YOU DAMN WELL WANT TO!

See, thats all it is. No biblical foundation for it. Its about as relevant as purgatory or transsubstantiation.

i always found this one of the most ridiculous catholic traditions, don't eat meat but fill up on fish

if you are going to fast do it properly, like NO food for 24hrs

I remember my father getting visibly angry that the canteen at college served meat on Ash Wednesday. As if everyone in my college was a Catholic, or gave a flying **** that it was Ash Wednesday

why is it no matter how empty that place is you still end up waiting 25 minutes for your mediocre sandwich and your 7 chips in a bag?
