It's all in their manifesto which I read before deciding not to vote for them. Did you not read it yourself?
So in the correct economic climate they'd raise them?
Oh well, pity that little qualification ruins it for you.

"The introduction of a 1% Wealth Tax. This
would be an income-linked Wealth Tax
for high-earners levied on their assets
over €1million in value, excluding working
    farmland."

And that wrecks the rest of your post. If they're "high earners" then I won't cry too much over them TBH.

    No it is childish.

Ok, again your logic is similar to:

killer X listened/was a fan of musician X therefore musician X is to blame and/or a bad person.
You can into any shop and buy X's music

Did SF just hand out election posters willy nilly back then ?

Please mate, that's just being silly now.

Read their manifesto before you vote for them next time, and read it properly.

All to be increased, and again when the economic conditions permit.

I see you don't dispute the insane proposals regarding min wage and assets tax.

Their economic policies were devised to sound good, nothing more, nothing less. They can't fail at them because they won't be in power, hence if they can't fail, they can promise anything.

The difference between SF and mainstream parties is that mainstream parties need to decide on economic policy that might actually have to be put in place - hence they are never going to look as appealing as the SF policy.

Strawman. And not even a subtle one.
WTF? I never disputed that they exist, but if they take 1% of every millionaire's assets then I say great!

Nobody seems to have told SF there is no money left in the Banks to rob to fund their "policies". That's how they usually funded themselves!!icon10.gificon10.gif

Lol, the usual SF supporter assertion. All business owners are loaded. No wonder their policies appeal to you.

A €1m asset does not have to be a house in Foxrock with a Merc parked outside it. In the case of businesses, it's usually a premises or machinery that keeps people employed. And SF want to punish businesses for having such assets, which keep people in jobs.

Farcical economic policies, so glad they'll never get a chance to implement their ideas as we'd be in even deeper ****e if they did. Bring back the Christmas dole bonus?!?!? :D Gave me a good laugh!

i can't believe so many people are wasting their time commenting on sinn fein. they are a joke. their "leader" jerry adams didn't even know what rate of VAT is in this country. Say no more. he is a clown and continues with the whole "i've never done anything wrong ever" story. i'd actually vote fianna fail before sinn fein

Except some of us honestly think they're the best party. What's wrong with other people not having the opinion as you?

As I have said they are not standing in the election. I abhor violence in all its forms. I have Al Qu'aida as well. Do you want a list of all the murdering doodooheads around the world that I hate?

and your still refusing to condemn the actions of the british army

Ah, the usual IBEC propaganda. Well remembered.
Taxes are "punishments" now, are they? What a great case to ban the lot of them.
Again, millionaires losing 1% per year... not too bothered TBH.:D

its not about opinions if they don't have a clue. It is a fact. if you think they are the best party, then thats fine but it means you don't have a clue.

JERRY or gerry? who cares. he is irrelevant.

Really? In that case "WAH WAH I WANT MY WAY ONLY". That is what your'e saying.

Good for you, you think you know more than me. You do not. You do not control my opinion. I made my opinion on facts.

And... I would imagine the leader of one of the major parties is fairly relevant.

Spot on Paulo. They targeted the permanent dolers and less well off with silly "policies" that they knew they would ever have to implement. One good thing FG have promised is a major clampdown on welfare fraud. The amount of people who dodged work when there was loads of it is sickening for the rest of us who have to pay for it. Then they were called themselves victims of the foreigners and now they're victims of the Govt, and all of us, who have to work. I'm trying to keep a small business going without the safety net of dole if I fail, let alone a Xmas bonus.

Yeah, that's right, all business owners are millionaires.

'Night all, thankfully we won't be waking up to a SF government.

The great thing I am seeing from this thread is that the people who know nothing or very little about SF have been educated,

I also see their language softening as the thread grows,

I think weeee know there is 1 particular member who from the start was jumping in playing devils advocate and has now seen sense,

all the negatives in this thread are worth it because it gave the chance to create so many more positives,

it was all good reading (well most of it ) GL SF in the up and coming count,

to the rest of Ireland, they have sown the seeds and the crop is getting stronger, the weeds will soon be gone and the SF POLITICAL strength will fix the mess.

after this election they will never be going away.

You should add a 'imo' to the end of that. Unless you're god or psychic.

The original question awwwwway back at the start of the thread was, "Anyone here going to vote Sinn Fein?" Rather than read through all the posts to find out if anyone is going to vote for them, all you have to do is click here - http://www.boards.ie/vote It seems that quite a few people are going to vote Sinn Fein. If you look at the geographical spread of Sinn Fein voters, the majority of them are in the border counties of Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth. This is not really surprising as the people living in these counties, being closer to Northern Ireland seem to have a better grasp of the work that Sinn Fein has done in the North. There is a lot of stuff spouted on here about the 'murderous' past...but that's what it is...the past - confined to history. I for one hope they do well.

Who said all business owners where millionaires exactly? I'd assume a 'high earner' is someone who earns a high salary.

You should learn how to debate, saying "grow up" and "you're wrong" without any reason is no argument; it's a tactic that's akin to trying to scream louder and louder.

Name three reasons I should not vote for Sinn Féin. I'll give your argument a chance if you can actually present three simple points as to why they were not worth my vote.

If they have over €1 million in assets then technically they are.
Otherwise no wealth tax is due under SF policy.
    Didn't you read manifestos?;)

What a rubbish argument. So they deliberately pick policies that will only get them enough votes to keep a minority like the unemployed happy?
And I suppose everybody except FG have policies they know they won't have to implement?

    lets see
    - there is about a €50bn whole in their "economic" poilicy
    - pandering to the trade unions which are as much to blame for the mess this country is in as fianna fail or the bankers
    - jerry adams didn't even know the VAT rate in this country. that is an insult to the people he wishes to represent. how can they develop "economic" policies if they don't know what the VAT rate is?
