    20 min walk

    x2 a day

    20 hours commute a week.

Averaging that out works out at 40 days a year spent on way to and from work.

    Jebus.

I hour a day each way. Makes 2 hours. 5 days a week makes 10 hours of commuting, not 20.

You work in Anglo-Irish or the Dept of Finance? ;)

FWIW I work from home, so zero commute. :) Any meetings I have in Dublin I always have at 10.00 or later so I dont get caught up in traffic either.

    Happy days.

    Wickla-UCD
Morning 1hr (leave at 7.20 if i left any later it'd take well over an hour)
I tend to leave college as early as possible to miss the traffic so usually 40mins home.

During the midterm this week i'm getting in 40 mins handy, no traffic whatsoever! Can leave home at 8, extra 45 mins in bed!

Which begs the question during the rest of the year...

WHY THE F**K CAN'T LITTLE FIACHRA AND SORCHA GET THE BLOODY BUS TO SCHOOL LIKE EVERY OTHER CHILD IN THE COUNTRY??!!

    "Cummute":p

Anywhere between 40 mins and an hour each way depending on how lucky I am with buses/tubes
Beats the 90 minute each way commute of my last job after we got relocated!!!

    30 seconds working from home
40 minutes driving to head office

It takes me 8-10 mins to get to my workplace. I am currently renting and will continue to do so in an area that wont effect my commute time. I view this as an important part of my life, I dont want to spend an hour- 2hour of a commute every day which is an absolute waste. But if your living in Dublin I guess there is no option given the high cost of living within the M50.

Thank god i live in the country, i couldn't live with anything longer than a 30 minute commute, at the moment i work pretty much from home so 0 minute commute for me, last few years it was about a 10 minute drive, thats it.

Used to be an 1-1.5 hour drive depending on traffic.

Now its a 10 minute ride on the underground or a nice work from home day. Sweet :)

45 minutes on the bus to the city centre, plus about 10-15 minutes walk after that.

Currently on a work placement so only 8-10 minute walk :)

If in college then anywhere from 45 minutes to 120 minutes based on the combination of bus eireann/train/Dublin bus/luas I take and how bad traffic is.

I'm cycling from Artane to Clanbrassil Street, depending on how packed the roads are, it takes between 30 and 40 minutes.

The distance is 3.8 miles, as far as I remember.

Currently unemployed but in my last job I was doing a 15 minute cycle, followed by 2.5 hour train journey, followed by a 30 minute cycle and then the same on the way home.

Journey by train is around 150kms, journey by bicycle is around 10kms+15kms so altogether everyday I did 350kms of travel.

OP asked "how long" without specifying whether the answer should be expressed as time, distance or both.

Not very informative saying how much time unless distance is also mentioned.

One or two posters mentioned a 6-minute drive. But what is that in kilometres? If they are able to drive at an average of, say, 1 km/minute, then their commuting distance is 6 km. That's very doable by bike.

On the other hand, a 6 minute commute by car in stop-start urban traffic conditions sounds farcical to me.

Yep, thing is by cycling I am getting in exercise but ending up with more free time. I know lads that will sit in a car all day, then drive 30mins to a gym, walk a treadmill for 60mins then drive home 30mins again  I also despise sitting in rush hour traffic in a car.

Others cheat themselves of their true commute time, like saying "takes me 30mins on the train", then you ask "so you leave at 8.30 to be in for 9", -"ah jaysus no, I'm out the door at 6. "

In my case I think the luas is longer than the 1hr, I walk 25mins to it, it is 25mins travel and 10min walk to work, but I have had to wait 9mins for the luas so you have to factor that in.
