    No it is childish.

Admit it - you laughed. It is no different to calling Cowan "Biffo"

Ok, again your logic is similar to:

killer X listened/was a fan of musician X therefore musician X is to blame and/or a bad person.

No it isn't. It really isn't.

Where do you think they got those election posters?

We are not talking about kids scrawling "Aengus is great" on their copybooks.

Oh, I understand why people would vote for SF.

Rabid nationalism and hard-left politics were a plague on the 20th century, and we are not free of them yet.

How can you complain about the term "Shinners" and then come out with that? Seriously.

Look it's polling day, I think it's been argued to death at this stage and is pointless. You have your views and I have mine. You can't understand how someone wouldn't vote SF and I can't understand how someone could.

The results tomorrow will tell what the majority of the people in the Republic think of SF ultimately.

the results will show tomorrow that the majority of irish people haven't a clue as has shown in past elections , they will vote in fine gael/labour incompetents , spank fianna failure and think everything will be grand , wrong
    .
sinn fein will have 12-15 seats , a significant increase and % wise probably largest gain in seats by any party .

Just to clarify I dont mind anyone not voting for SF.

But using the word shinner and o'snotty that is childish and that nonsense I have a problem with.

    Oh stop being so precious.

Every politician world wide is a fair target for ridicule and name calling. Politicians in power are subject to far worse.

If those words upset you, well you will have a rude awakening should the shinners ever get into government.

I suppose reading The Phoenix would cause apoplexy?

I dont call him BIFFO I call him much worse, and that is deserved and based on what he did.

No I dont care for the term black and tan, except when I did the LC and my degree naturally enough.

I dont know where I could possibly get an election poster - literally outside my house I see none none at all. They must have got it off him personally, I dont see how else?
    They can get it anywhere!

He has no connection to the IRA, people who seem to have connection to the IRA seem to like him.
It is very like the music analogy.

It is childish - o'snotty. End of, you can dislike or hate him but petty namecalling is what children do.

On top of calling me "precious" you didnt read my posts - shinners is not offensive, i never said it was.

We'll see. Gaining less seats than FF really shows that most people have a problem with SF's connections and policies given how FF support has been decimated lately.

Yes. Voted this morning, Sinn Fein No. 1

    Be realistic.

Not even labour, a slightly left party is ever likely to be a main party in this country. How would SF ever make huge gains no matter what, even forgetting their questionable past?

Just voted there, SF no 1.

Ever wonder why? What is it about left-of-centre politics (especially hard-left) that doesn't get the support of the wider community?

Even soft-left Labour, who could have siezed this opportunity, seem to have blown it (in relative terms).

I've loads of views on it, but they're for another day/thread.

Went out and voted Sinn Féin first thing this morning. There'll be thousands upon thousands of others doing so as well all day.

Time we put people first in this little country of ours.

Why the left get less votes?

    People are greedy.

People as opposed to what Bobby?

Good luck finding jobs for all these people if SF ever did get into power, which thankfully they won't.

If we ever had a hard-left majority in the Republic (which we won't in my lifetime anyway), I'd pack my bags and leave you all to it.

lets see now , 450k unemployed , 55k on supplementary register , 130k already emigrated , 50k + in 2011 will leave , so good luck finding jobs indeed . would it be worse under sinn fein , hardly , better , maybe not , would the elites and the corrupts that have ran this country into the ground since 1922 be as comfortable and as smug , defiantly not

Never said FF did a good job, but what I do know is SF's head-in-the-clouds policies will have us in an even worse state. I'm certain of that, hence SF will be among the few nut-jobs that won't be getting on my polling card today.

There are 5 votes in my house and at least 4 of them are going to Sinn Fein....I can no longer afford my mortgage...will probably have to sell my house and I'll be damned if I give any vote to any party who are going to continue on as FF have been doin.

I'm very angry, very poor and very disillusioned....and my vote is going to reflect that!!!

I think you are probably right that Sinn Fein will have the biggest increase in seats in percentage terms.

I think the best result for the long term future of the Sinn Fein party would be 14 seats while Adams loses out in Louth (unlikely) and Ferris loses out in North Kerry West Limerick (possible).

We are all very angry, and getting rid of FF is one thing, but to then vote for Sinn Fein (political wing of the IRA) is completly mad!!! You say that "nearly every body in you house are going to vote for Sinn Fein", but are you fully all aware of why people like me don't (& would never) vote SF?

My reasons for not voting Sinn Fein are posted in post#2509

Maybe you five people are too young to remember what they actually stand/stood for?

Unlikely, and I'd imagine you wouldn't agree on what they stood for anyway. I'm 41, and I've been voting for them since I was 18.

But if you fancy answering a non-nonsense question perhaps you might like to have a stab at the one all the others are avoiding?
How can SF credibly claim to be democrats when they insist nothing was wrong with PIRA presuming to represent Irish people against their expressed consent?

Those were unusual circumstances. Personally I would have thought the whole shooting and killing element would have been the bone of contention, rather than who claimed to represent what...

Given the incessant goading you and a few others have been at, its bound to provoke a few rather hasty remarks. You might spare us the faux outrage....

im sick at the level of old british propaganga spoke of sinn feins gerry adams on this thread,
not one of yous know what it was like to be living in a hell hole.
not one of yous care about how long it took to get civil rights.
could you live youre life to its full with british troops running around like madmen. no respect for you or youre people and youre kids.
the ira did murder people.everyones sorry for that and moving on ,and on both sides to.dont get me wrong most of us still dont talk.the hate is still there but we all know where we where going.
if i know anything il tell yous this, sinn fein and the d.u.p saved a lot of peoples lives and il give them both the same credit for that.they stoped. we have peace and it will last.give them a chance and if you ever get a chance go in to one their offices in youre town or city and have a chat , you will find their bright young and down to earth.
