With all the unrest and revolutions over the last few weeks in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya does anybody else think that while it may be the beginning of something big? With all the crazy ass leaders in that area of the world and big ol' weapons of mass destruction(?) s**t could all kick off.

    Nah, probably not.

No, world war three is when serious countries with a lot of power start arguing. Not revolutions across small African countries that would be squished under the little toe of the likes of China, America, Britain, France etc.

It depends on who takes over these Countries. If its Islamic extremists then we are in trouble. No matter what happens, 2011 is a year that will shape the world for a long time.

I doubt even that'll happen. Britain doesn't seem to like getting into wars with countries that could actually fight back.

Thinking the same thing yesterday, alot of war going on at the moment.

It's actually the beginning of the apocalypse - although admittedly it's easy to confuse with WW3.
The signs have been there for months now. Flooding and tropical storms in Oz, Earthquakes in NZ and a few inches of snow in Ireland.
    We're doomed I tell ye - doomed!!!

In fairness WWI started from 1 man being shot, and it was only later that the "serious" countries joined in. And Egypt is far from small its got like 70 million people. America and Britain are already involved down there, who's to say something wont spark in Iran or somewhere similar?

Going to war over religion is basically killing one another to see who's got the better imaginary friend...

WW2 actually never stopped in some countries, there always been war somewhere, thats how we are made. :(
I honestly dont believe anyone will use nuclear, cause even those who will use it, will get poison themselves sooner than later, and they wouldnt like that :D

I'd say no right now, but something could happen if this revolution carry on spreads to Iran and Saudi. We could end up with $250-300 barrel oil, and food prices will sky rocket.

Libya is the 17th largest oil producer in the world, and pumps 1.5 million barrels a day, with most of that bought by the EU.

I don't think there is much chance of revolution in Saudi, any calls for protests there have largely been ignored by the public. I'd say a more pressing concern would be how Israel reacts, if they do something stupid then the whole region could go up dragging everyone into a war that no one wants.

Hmm! WW1 kicked off because some anarchist whacked a Duke in Sarajevo.

It only really takes one of the "bigger" countries to do something stupid to kick it off......*cough* AMERICA *cough*

Not entirely true, nationalist politics, rivalries, a myriad of alliances that bred mistrust and massive arms buildups meant a conflict of some sort was in my opinion inevitable. Princip's shots only sparked the war.

Everyone envisions WW3 as a nuclear war, which it will be. The great powers wouldn't even dream of going to war over a bit of scuffling in Africa. There is no immediate security threat to any of the nuclear countries.

Perhaps the U.S Government will organize and execute a devious plan. Fly a few airplanes into some important pyramidal shaped buildings in Egypt and blame it on Afghanistan/Iraq. Should get something started.

EDIT: Sorry, Already been done to the twin towers.

No real chance of a WWIII, but a world of wars (something that's been going on since the beginning of time) is going up a couple of gears. A flurry of overthrows is in progress right now, the main question has to be, just how far "west" will they go.

The wheels are (really) starting to fall off the "infinite" growth economic model, there was a time when the economic cycle involved everything going up, one thing at a time, while the value of money fell at a slightly lower rate. This was so the parasitic sectors (banks etc) of the economy could prosper without killing the host.
Now the costs of basic essentials are rising, but the value of money is falling faster!
With the financial can (of worms) already kicked down the road from 2008, we are about to catch up with it again in 2011, the next kick will open it!

The sovereign defaults that were delayed for the past couple of years, will almost certainly happen this year if oil and food prices continue going north, or even if they don't fall back.

Just how much "demand destruction" can the world create, before the financial sector decide it's time to change the model. Will they wait for China to "pop" first.
