TB has become a MCD-run drunken/drugged-up mess. It's the same format to any other muddy-field rock concert you find can find advertised on builder's hoardings. The only difference is you have to "dress up".

The hired-in security are thugs and it's incredibly uncomfortable.

There was a day when to be seen at the Trinity Ball was a good thing.

That said, I like The Streets. I don't however like the sight of 100s of obnoxious gimps in hired polyester "dinner jackets", complete with M&S wing-tip collar and clip-on bow-tie-with-matching-cummerbund set. (actually these days it's gotten to the stage where you're lucky to see any man still wearing his jacket and tie by the time he enters Front Gate). Black tie is the exception rather than the norm.

    Or the side fence...

How viable is it to sneak in?

Would really like to go but not a TCDer and could do without spending €80

Did it in first year, took a while but I had more fun getting in with two randomers than I did at the ball itself.

That being said, don't go expecting to get in. You might do, you might not.

I've been over the railings once. Not the best way of getting in, but it can be done.

Whats with Katy B on her own? They could bring over some decent dubstep artist or **** pick one up on the way in. Totally going to ruin her vibe being on her own. This is bollix, **** the ****ing SU.

As usual, the sheeple are only too ready to accept mediocrity. That is an absolute shíte line-up. The Trinity Ball lost its prestige years ago and has been in decline ever since. Who do we blame for this - the SU or MCD? That said, I'd be willing to pay the €80 to smack the Rubberbandits in the face. Absolute gobshítes that wouldn't be out of place in the SU.

Why would you smack the RB in the face?

Because it's not music. They are a novelty comedy act that (some) people found funny last year. Most people had forgotten about them until MCD dragged them out of the dole queue to perform at the Ball.

They are music. Aside from their mockumentary's which is maybe all youve heard of them.
'Some people found funny last year'
Theyve played at colleges all over Ireland to sell out crowds.

'Most people had forgotten about them'
Most people only heard of them and started loving them 4 months ago.
Horse Outside has over 6million views, it was Irelands Christmas #2 I believe.
Theyre a great act to have at the TB

Still dont see why you'd want to smack them in the face. They're two normal guys from Limerick who've found a niche in the Irish music market and are making money. No need to begrudge

RB are the only act I'd actually really like to see at the TB.

Ok, so whats the story with getting the tickets!? Do you need to apply online, and then queue, or do you need to get up at the crack of dawn to queue anyways, or do you queue at all?! Im quite confused :D

Yes. Very little point in quieting early as the application system doesn't go live til nine.

Pretty sure the instructions on the SU website are easy enough to follow.

To register for tickets visit www.trinityball.ie. Bookings open at 9am on Wednesday! You can then register for up to two tickets. These can be bought online or in the SU Shop once you have your registration code. They are €78 each. Tickets can also be bought online form PayPal for €80 each. The Ball sold out in 2 just over two days last year, so make sure to get yours as soon as possible this year, there’s no point in risking it!

Seriously? Cant even get near the tickets section on their website for over an hour.

    Another joke of a year.

    Seriously, monkeys could do better.

I only have short little legs so I'm gonna have to find another option..
Those secret Trinity tunnels will come in seriously handy right about then.

Had paid and all by 9:15. Trick was to avoid the main trinity ball website and add /apply1.php to the end of it

Pretty sure monkeys would not actually do any better tbh. Its just luck of the draw when traffic to the site is this high. I was all paid up by 9.20am and from the comfort of my own bed too. Well worth the extra €2!

Have the site designers never heard of cloud computing? You can buy daily nodes for $1 a day.

They should have had 20 or 30 such nodes for Wed/Thurs and 10 or 20 on Friday, eventually going down to 2 or 3.

Anyone who does this is leaving themselves open to Trinity's disciplinary procedures. Each ticket is numbered and recorded against the booking. If somone was to be arrested/found to have caused damage the internal Trinity disciplinary issues would be upon the person who bought the ticket.

I have seen this happen before.
Simple answer is, if you aren't in Trinity or if you are not the guest of a Trinity grad/student/staff member you really shouldnt be there.

Ticket obtained, I still feel dirty for handing over €78 though... hope it's worth it.

You'd get a nice dinner up town and drinks in a posh hotel afterwards for that.

You're going to be shuffed around like a cow going off to be milked and will have nowhere to sit down as there will be railings *everywhere*.

ok first of all flanator, the "**** you peasant" comment wasnt very nice, secondaly, to the other poster, you are implying that im going to go into trinity and trash the place, leaving the chances of anyone sending me a pm very slim, why cant you allow other people make up there mind on what they want to do instead of telling them not to help me out, thats basically what you have done,

I do understand what you are saying though but your tarring me with the same brush as trouble-makers, im far from a trouble maker, all I want is 2 tickets to the trinity ball to enjoy it with my friends. All im asking is for a trinity student or staff member to reserve tickets, thank you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭Lawliet

To be fair, there's nothing wrong with letting people know what might happen if they start buying tickets for people not in Trinity. No one's saying you're going to cause trouble, but lets face it you're a complete stranger so no one can know for sure that you won't. If someone is going to help you out then they have a right to know that they'll be the ones stuck with the consequences.

I implied nothing. I simply informed you and others reading this forum of the potential consequences of getting you tickets. Seeing as the event is for students/grads and staff of Trinity and will without doubt sell out I dont see why anybody should do your bidding. I mean no offence; but this is a Trinity event, so in honest and blunt terms, you have no business being there unless you are there a as a guest of a ticketed member of the trinity community.

You implied everything you said. I was once a trinity student and tried to use my student number but it wouldnt work, and now I am currently studying for a masters degree elsewhere,

I have no business there, who are you to tell me I have no business, I had fantastic years in Trinity and greatly contributed to sports success with the college, so I dont have any business there, are you the current model student because if this is Trinity's new breed of student then I finished at the right time.

You said unless I was a guest of a ticketed member of the trinity community, well my friends have tickets, so if someone was willing to use there student number for me. would be my friends guests.

bidding? Nobody said anything about bidding.

I think you need to step down from that high horse of yours
