    To see man set foot on Mars! It should happen in my lifetime anyway. They reckon the people who will set foot on the Red Planet are alive today.

    Doubt it somehow. It takes two years to get to Mars and two years to get back. You're going to need a vessel that's capable of producing 4 years worth of food for the crew. Having said that, they seem to crack on ok in that international space station, but that thing is resupplied on a regular basis by shuttles.
