I love the way at the start of part 1 he's like "none of you boards people come to my shows ,with your bad vibes and your bitterness come to my effin' shows"
It might serve you well to pay closer attention. McSavage was clearly taking the piss with that comment. If you took it literally then I'm afraid wooooooooooooossssshhhh!!

I never would have thought that perception was out there.

It's a very real one. And for the TV forum in particular it's very justified. Most things (even outside of RTÉ shows, which has became completely comically negative at this point) are either the best thing since sliced bread or completely repugnant. The forum is a mob with a mob's short-sighted reactionary tendencies and it's very hard to have differing opinion and not be shouted down by a torrent of emoticons or pointlessly bristled attempts at being the smartest guy in the room.

Maybe it's a forum thing in general, but we, the Irish, excel at bitching and moaning so we're bound to be among the worst offenders. I do find I enjoy shows, both ones I never heard of before and ones I'm watching through on DVD off the pace of airing, more when I don't look at this forum. If it's something about politics or the Late Late I couldn't care because those are like the Tayto of television and are completely throwaway.

Boards.ie has a reputation, and the reason McSavage's half-joking and half-serious monologue hit a nerve is because it touches on a universal truth.

Indeed, on the whole this website is very, very negative. His comments were completely justified. The Radio forum is the worst. I don't think anyone actually likes anything in there. If Ghostbusters 2 was real, we'd all be dead.

No shortage of candidates here. Good post Tim. Objective analysis is sorely lacking.

Why? good post by Tim.I have never come across the whole "negative signal" apparently boards sends out.I was a casual user ,then I liked what I saw ,so I registered ,then I subscribed because it's one of the best sites on the internet.I don't get this "boards is evil" stuff tbh ,probably because I don't frequent the forums Tim's talking about.

I get exactly what he's talking about.

Theres an awful lot of hating in this forum. Now im not saying boards is all bad, there are some very decent sections here which are very useful. But i find AH to be absolutely choc-a-block with people generally slanging insults at famous people.

Example; remember when cheryl tweedy was very ill a few months ago, the girl was close to death. I remember a thread was started on the matter & guess what?...it turned into a i hate cheryl tweedy thread. Some pretty disgusting comments were posted, some expressing joy if she were to die. Im not any great fan of the girl but i was fairly outraged at some of the stuff being said. I remember thinking what did she do that was so bad that people would wish death upon her?(< pun opportunity)
Point im making is theres a celeb hate thread every week, the latest tv villian gets a dose of the oul internet warrior mockery. its a bit sad really. The vibe i get from a lot of these begrudgers; is he/she's famous, im not, that person is successful, now i hate that person. grrrrrrr...insult upon insult etc... Its very very typically irish.

This sort of behaviour makes me not want to be associated with this forum. I hang around in the motors section mostly. Theres practically no bitching in there.

Was never a fan of McSavage until the Savage Eye, but always aware of him.

Watched plenty of his street stuff online/in dublin and have seen him live before he got popularity with this show and was unsure what to make of him.

Once in the International Bar he got really pissed off with a girl in the audience who kept having over -the-top laughing fits; but she was enjoying the show and was laughing with him, however he was paranoid and abusive to her and gave her loads in a ****ty way.
It took away from his gig, and showed maybe he is pretty self concious.

The interview was excellent and gave an insight into where he comes from.
Despite what he says i reckon he follows the social media -in particular boards threads- strongly and always has, not a criticism- the Savage Eye is the most insightful comedy to come out of Ireland in along time.

Liked his comments about the vox-pop (didn't think he did it himself) they add a lot to the show.

Thanks for that ,I do frequent AH but have backed off a little because of threads like you're describing ,but I see where you're coming from ,I cannot stand some of the ****e posted by ill-informed people myself. Some of the "cut the dole" stuff annoy's me because while im still working I have seen family members crippled by this.

And yet we get all these keyboard warriors and teenagers telling us to "throw them to the streets" "fcuk them out of their family home" bull.

    Anyway on topic

I do like the savage eye and it's potential ,I do not dislike David Mc Savage ,I have really enjoyed the savage eye ,especially the "minister for breathlessness"

Yep AH has generally become a "who's the most sarcastic bástard in the room competition" populated with mainly keyboard warriors. Every single thread descends into amateur comedian hour with insanely polarised views on everything and people trying so hard to be funny. There are usually a couple of decent relevant posts but they generally got lost in the swarm of drivel.

Anyways back on topic, twas an interesting enough interview, was definitely worth the watch :)

Yet some of the people who post on AH are funnier than a lot of the people who make it onto Irish tv, go figure.

someone actually gave Maeve Higgins money to make a show, thats just mental.

It's way easier to think up a cute line or two than it is to make all the cogs of a television show work, honestly. Alot of comedians both here and aboard are crap, but There's no shortage of people a thousand times sharper than your average forum goer involved in the arts world. People just have to make the effort, but saying that on a television forum is slightly self-defeating.

You could see him looking tense when describing the pain of putting the show together. Almost as if writing the jokes was the easier part!
