Its not that, its that he preaches about road safety when he never passed a driving test, he got his license when there was a massive backlog and there were people just being handed them.

    Not quite true
Around 1979/1980, there was a backlog and people applying were given an amnesty. That was a once off occurrence and will never be repeated.

Gay Byrne is 76, there was a time in Ireland and your grandparents were probably included when you bought a license in the post office.
He wasn't given it, just used the system as it currently existed

You're right he never passed a test. But as a biker, he knows more about road safety then most drivers out there

Most popular; John Hume, a shame he won't run for President. He'd cruise in and be a worthy choice
I second that. By his efforts, John Hume won the peace.... but lost his political power/career. A truly moral man.

It must be so frustrating for brian cowan to be hated more than sean fitzpatrick.

Least: Sean Fitz or Johnny Ronan
Most: I really can't think of one here that is universally popular.

Yeah, the gall of him trying to reduce the number of people who die in road accidents in this country?

    What a cùnt!

He went on a crusade to drive up insurance prices for young people. No doubt he was probably in bed with the insurance companies.

Don't wanna drag this off topic but that statement was pretty annoying the first time I read it...but then I re-read it and it kinda makes sense. It is possible that bikers know more about road safety than the average driver...just a shame they don't put it into practice...kinda like cyclist knowing what a red light is but ignoring it.

If that was really the case he would have tried to get something done about this country's substandard roads.

Should I be concerned that I don't know 90% of the people mentioned in this thread? Am I so out of touch????

    Least : Brian Cowen.
Most : Me, when I'm buying a round of drinks for the entire pub.

Least popular ? that fellow with the beard from the public sector union, standing up for his secure, well paid and pensioned members ( average pay close to a grand a week ) at the expense of the private sector.

Public opinion in Ireland is great, we could name about 100 for least popular but very few for most popular.

Personally I would choose Seany Fitzpatrick and Bertie as least popular
For most popular prob Grainne Seioge or Miriam O'Callaghan

He may know a lot about road safety, he might not. Either way he is condescending

Least popular... Bertie Ahern. Especially as he seems to have no shame for what he's done

Most popular? Thats difficult... maybe someone like Dara O'Briain? I can't think of an Irish person who is universally liked, outside of comedy

If you're going to do one of these, at least have a poll...

    Least: Brian Cowen
Most: Dave Fanning maybe? Though he keeps a low profile.

    Least popular, Anna Nolan.
I've read her articles, they're bitchy and scathing about most of her colleagues. I'd say she dines alone in the canteen

Most popular; John Hume, a shame he won't run for President. He'd cruise in and be a worthy choice
no she dosent dine alone all the the women sit with her:D:D:D

Least liked - Bertie Ahern, followed closely by Sean Fitzpatrick. Rosanna Davison is another who seems to receive a lot of bile.

Most liked - Michéal O Muircheartaigh / David Norris. I would doubt there is a person out their who would dislike either of these men.
