Least popular... Bertie Ahern. Especially as he seems to have no shame for what he's done

Most popular? Thats difficult... maybe someone like Dara O'Briain? I can't think of an Irish person who is universally liked, outside of comedy

I think the Irish public have a short memory span and I'd put Brian Cowan higher on the hated list than Bertie for a lot of people.

Personally, I love Marty Whelan :D Marty for president!

I absolutely despise Blaitnid Ni Chofaigh and Amanda Brunker and apparently I'm not in a minority.

I'd say Grainne Seoige would be well liked by many.

Aye... its hard to dislike Marty Whelan. I personally think he's under-utilised... and he'd be a great president :)

I find it probably the most easiest thing in the world to dislike Marty Whelan.

Sean Fitzpatrick and Bertie neck and neck.

Personifications of everything that went wrong with the country.

Well, I removed them as they're personal choices but in terms of the wider public:

Least: The Flynnstones (Padraig and Beverly)

Most: Brian O'Driscoll (Bring on the wrath)

Maybe this is in poor taste, but another least popluar suggestion is Gerry Ryan's daughter... the one who simply walked into a career at RTE. I really cannot stand her... nor the system she exemplifies ( blatant nepotism, its not what you know, but who you know in Ireland ).

    Most popular: Probably John Hume
Least popular: A close one between Bertie, Seanie Fitz or Larry Murphy.

Meh! You're just jealous of his luxuriant moustache.

Cowen would be the least popular...good calls on Brunker and the ginger thing though.

Most popular is tougher because anyone with any degree of fame is gonna be hated by a lot of people but I will go with Mr Tayto.

Least : Bertie or maybe David Drum

Most : Daithí Ó Sé maybe?

In fairness he left on a good note with the Late Late. If he never got involved with the RSA i would have a lot more respect for him

Mr Tayto... on the old packets they used to have a comic strip about "Tayto Castle" :) ... I think that would be a better seat of Government than what we have... I'm not even joking :(

    Ronan?

Giving Larry a 'dig out' wasn't as creepy or sinister.

Yeah, the gall of him trying to reduce the number of people who die in road accidents in this country?

    What a cùnt!

Its not that, its that he preaches about road safety when he never passed a driving test, he got his license when there was a massive backlog and there were people just being handed them.

    Least popular, Anna Nolan.
I've read her articles, they're bitchy and scathing about most of her colleagues. I'd say she dines alone in the canteen

Most popular; John Hume, a shame he won't run for President. He'd cruise in and be a worthy choice

    Not quite true
Around 1979/1980, there was a backlog and people applying were given an amnesty. That was a once off occurrence and will never be repeated.

Gay Byrne is 76, there was a time in Ireland and your grandparents were probably included when you bought a license in the post office.
He wasn't given it, just used the system as it currently existed

You're right he never passed a test. But as a biker, he knows more about road safety then most drivers out there

I second that. By his efforts, John Hume won the peace.... but lost his political power/career. A truly moral man.

It must be so frustrating for brian cowan to be hated more than sean fitzpatrick.

Least: Sean Fitz or Johnny Ronan
Most: I really can't think of one here that is universally popular.

He went on a crusade to drive up insurance prices for young people. No doubt he was probably in bed with the insurance companies.

Don't wanna drag this off topic but that statement was pretty annoying the first time I read it...but then I re-read it and it kinda makes sense. It is possible that bikers know more about road safety than the average driver...just a shame they don't put it into practice...kinda like cyclist knowing what a red light is but ignoring it.

If that was really the case he would have tried to get something done about this country's substandard roads.

Should I be concerned that I don't know 90% of the people mentioned in this thread? Am I so out of touch????

    Least : Brian Cowen.
Most : Me, when I'm buying a round of drinks for the entire pub.

Least popular ? that fellow with the beard from the public sector union, standing up for his secure, well paid and pensioned members ( average pay close to a grand a week ) at the expense of the private sector.

Public opinion in Ireland is great, we could name about 100 for least popular but very few for most popular.

Personally I would choose Seany Fitzpatrick and Bertie as least popular
For most popular prob Grainne Seioge or Miriam O'Callaghan

Most: Dave Fanning maybe? Though he keeps a low profile.
