At first I was thinking that I probably could be one, but then I had a think about it and realised that if I was the executioner for someone who was later found innocent, I certainly wouldn't feel too good about myself.

Would probably have criminals looking to kill you as well, not sure I'd be up for that.

I would charge premium for gang members and terrorists-their pals would try and track you down.

But I'd happily cut the throats of paedophiles and rapists for free. Hell, I'd PAY for the privilege..... :p

Unless you were living in the US then there wouldnt be many you'd be doing in a career. Not judging by pierrepoint's career in the UK as their last executioner(and ours IIRC). Unless you were getting the major shekels for each time it would be a part time job.

Though as pierrepoint himself said "I do not now believe that any one of the hundreds of executions I carried out has in any way acted as a deterrent against future murder. Capital punishment, in my view, achieved nothing except revenge."

So in reality? I wouldnt do it. Not unless it was in revenge for the loss of one my own. Then yes. I'd gut them like a fish. Slowly.

    I don't think I could do it.
Imagine if a friend or relative got sentenced to death and you had to put them down :( bummer.

Happened to that english lad pierrepoint. He owned a pub which was his main income and one of his well loved customers murdered a woman IIRC and he had to execute him.

I would guess that most people would be abhorred with taking another persons life, whether it is state sanction execution, murder or manslaughter.
I personally could not be an executioner and my view is that capital punishment is wrong.
    There is a but.

Some of the gangland slayings and drug related killings are done by people who have absolutely no regard for human life whatsoever. These people are extremely dangerous to and also a burden on society.
In that case, if they were all found in a ditch with a bullet in the head, I don't think that I would lose too much sleep over them.

Wasn't he recruited by the Irish government to carry out executions here, for some strange reason? They must have felt that the English could carry on being blamed for getting rid of old-IRA members and anyone else sentenced to death after the founding of the State.

I don't think that anyone sentenced to death here was actually executed by an Irishman.

No I couldn't. Awful job and horrible nights. Anyone who actually would say yes would have to be sociopathic or happen to have an otherwise great life on the side. ;)

Save the country millions instead of keeping them in high security jails, am sure some of their victims family would charge no fee but you would have to spend some time and money training them in the most efficient way to to painlessly execute these low lifer's.

Apparently hanging someone properly to break the neck and a quarter swing to the left is quite a technical job.

Executing someone improperly isn't quite legal.

If there's an expert knocking about............

Don't know if I'd do it myself. Could think of some who deserve it and would gladly do it, but a randomer sent to you by a corrupt/inefficient judicial system, not so much.

There are weight tables and rope lengths. So a 14 stone guy might need a 10 foot drop to the end a 20 stone guy only 5 foot. You have to use a hemp rope prestretched overnight. Any eejit could do it, but you would want someone skilled to do it well. best way to go by current legal methods, though slow O2 replacement in a chamber would be the best.

Our executions were much more civilised than that bunch of redneck mullah ching chongs doncha know.

One must observe the niceties of killing someone.

    Anything else is just barbaric.

Nope. Depends on where the bullet enters the head/brain. You will note the recent survival of the US senator. Calibre makes a diff too. Oh sure the vast majority will die of a head shot, but will they die clean and quickly?

Nope again. It's a sequence it's not just one injection. Plus because of the Hippocratic oath that doctors swear(first do no harm being the gist of it) US doctors won't perform executions by lethal injection. So this is done by untrained types. Then you have inmates who may be habitual drug users or have different reactions to the first anaesthetic or the following drugs. Could you find a suitable vein without training?

Actually if we leave behind the often ridiculous cultural relativism popular at the moment, "ours" were. Though capital punishment is well dodgy, I would consider a culture superior if in the event that they hadn't outlawed the practice yet, they sought to make it as humane as possible.

Indeed, an instruction book will only take you so far.

oh I think we could work out the calibre, perhaps aim a shot into the lower medulla and at an angle with a notched bullet tip so as to make sure... its not rocket science

and you know what - if there's movement post first shot lets not hang around, shoot again ;)

Love to see a referendum on the death penalty, I would vote for its return and I believe as a nation it would be a close call because the Justice system is a joke, F#ck the victim and families lets rehabilitate the scumbags.
