I was just browsing there and came across something scary that made me wonder...how can people hunt/shoot foxes? I mean genuinely I don't understand how people can stare down the barrel of a shotgun and kill such a magnificent animal without a care in the world? :o

Does that imply if you live in the country side you'd "get it"?

I live in the country side and the vast majority of people I know wouldn't hunt / own a gun and I consider people who hunt somewhat lacking something mentally.

Because you make your living from chickens or other livestock and foxes kill and eat them.

It's not for the craic. If you ran a restaurant you'd probably have mousetraps.

you want the country to be overrun with foxes. majority of farmers own guns and kill foxes.

My brother-in-law is a farmer and often goes shooting game. Once a local dog went rogue and started killing his neighbour's sheep. The neighbour caught the dog and asked my brother-in-law to shoot it.

I asked him if it was difficult to shoot a dog, meaning it being man's best friend and all.

He said it was easy, as long as the dog sat still.

I ****ing love eating animals. I do not understand though why we are so reluctant towards killing and eating people but not animals. It's pretty arrogant to place the life of a human over an animal. I will still be eating my steak rare mind you.

*Edit - Human does not taste too good, apparently. *

Well it starts off reasonably enough but then the post drifts off into the wishy-washy language of somebody trying to convince me of something. That's what makes arguments like these so utterly ineffective most of the time. Keep the language plain and straight and people might listen more. Would it help if the animal was less magnificent? Does the hunter really not have a care in the world?

I live a mile or so from Cork City centre, quite a lot of lads around here are into hunting, foxes, rabbits etc. They don't shoot them though, dogs and shovels  Also ferrets they use.

So if you had to choose the life of your child over the life of your dog, you'd choose the dog?

No. That is my point. We choose to discriminate based on selfish reasoning. I am sure the dog would want the other option.

Suicides on the increase since the GFC, touchy subject...

A fox killed most of my birds. Only took one away but killed loads of them just for the sport. A few were left alive but torn open.
    That's why they get shot.

Think that happened somewhere in the UK, some retarded animal rights people thought it would be a good idea to release them into the wild from a fur farm. Spastics didn't give much thought to what releasing non native species would do to to the local wildlife, they were too busy fapping away to their own Born Free wet dream.
