It still works for me, well to a point anyway.
No problem browsing and loading shows but after a few seconds playback, it buffers for what seems like forever, making it more or less unwatchable. It is still letting me access all the content though.

BTW, ABC player is working again for me, although the quality is pretty shoddy. Im sure its down to the VPN Im using, as with BBC iplayer. Both are perfect on my Mac, just the ipad that they seem to have issues with.

My free run with them is up around May so I dont know if I will subscribe after that.

Thanks for the response, also same to R3nu4l.

I haven't had a chance to try out the ipad today but am looking forward to trying the BBC app tomorrow and also the ABC one.

I am presuming that you're using Black VPN . I am too. I think it probably is where the main problem with the buffering etc lies alright. I'd also go elsewhere if it wasn't free at the moment too. I couldn't really recommend it in all conscience these days. I hope they improve it. I'd love to hear how people using other vpns are finding them for these apps.

Yeah its blackvpn I`m with. Fine on the Mac but seems to have issues on the iPad. When I first used it(around August last year) the iplayer worked perfectly, as did the ABC app.

I`m going to download the offical iplayer app tonight and see if that is any better.

New BBC app is great :) Listening to BBC Radio 4 right now, also watched a repeat of Chuggington (my daughter's favourite show). Great!

EDIT: Just realised that the radio station volume mutes when the iPad goes into powersave mode. Wonder can I change that?

BBC iPlayer app not showing up on Irish App store.
    How can I get this?

I assume you'll have to purchase a VPN subscription and use that to access the UK store? Others here will have a better idea :)

You shouldn't need VPN to access the UK store. But you will need to use a different e-mail address to any existing logins you have to other Apple stores to create an account on the UK store.

Using the app will require a VPN though, I assume.

Cheers, I have a black VPN account.
Will set up a UK account later.

    More black VPN woes.

The app looks great but it isn't working for me with black VPN. I'm getting a " not available outside the UK message" every time .

    So disappointed.:(

Just to sidestep the VPN chat for a sec, World of Goo is on sale today for one day only ($0.99, down from $9.99!) --- youtube clip.

Ah dam. Was just about to set up a UK iTunes account to download the app and try it through BlackVPN.

Obvious question but, are you sure it's your UK VPN you have switched on?

Well I download it and the videos don't play but I don't ger a region message. They time out and a message says this video couldn't load. Please try again later.

The live tv function works perfect for me though.

Happy news adox! It's working now.:)

I tried it several times and it didn't and then strangely it just started working. There was a good 10 mins of buffering but still it worked for 5 mins straight through after that. Sorry about the false alarm.:)

Is there any way to set up a new iTunes account without having to give credit card details? I've tried to access the UK iTunes through my VPN but setting up a new account requires a credit card and presumably a UK address

Instead of US just add UK. Instructions here.

Purchase a free app. It will ask you to sign up and you can select " none" as a payment option.

Enter a UK address (google a hotel address or something).

I have a VPN, working no problem, but Apple is forcing me to put a valid credit card when I sign up for a new itunes account (different email address) for US so I can download ABC player.

Is there another way around it to get the App? Even when jailbroken?
Same goes for BBC iplayer app.

For me, its not the VPN, I just cant get the actual apps :(

As states above, go to download a free app from the countries iTunes store. It will then ask you to join and this time it will definitely have "none" as a payment option.

Yep, your absolutely right, sorry.....for anyone who might miss it, if you simply try and sign in then create a new profile it wont have the option, you have to select something to download, and a free download at that.

    Thanks adox
I didn't even see the option for 'none'. Have it working perfectly now :)

I'm not terribly happy about the above post which seems to be dabbling in stealing that which should be paid for, so far as I can see.

You're new here so I would ask you to confine your posts to information regarding the legitimate use of Apple Media Devices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 barglee83

Well I've deleted the post as it's somewhat useless with the edits done to it. The site I mentioned is where people upload PDF files(magazines) and share using hotfile. I just wanted to point out a very useful way of accessing these from an iPad directly.

As far as legality I would question whether accessing material prohibited in Ireland through VPNs (a topic discussed without any censorship in this board) is any more legitimate that accessing PDFs uploaded by others to a site like this, but I guess this is up to moderator....

it was by far the worst news app on the store..most of the headline's would be still there 72 hours later..
