I'm fine-use a private firm for my bins, the parents and neighbours keep getting texts about when collections are taking place from the council but nobody has turned up for nearly a fortnight at this stage.

Anybody see today's Enniscorthy Guardian? €100,000 available for a new playground but the wretched council can't find the money for a couple of pots of paint for the one on the Promenade. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Why not make a concrete skatepark, something that would be extremely difficult to damage. And there is a demand for it.

I'd rather walk than have to go to that place for diesel. Ignorant howiyas working in there, shíte parking, and hard to get out of. Havent been in there in years.

I never buy petrol there either, and I go to Enniscorthy regularly. The petrol prices in "the Bellefield place" are totally ridiculous when compared to New Ross and Clonroche!

The price of fuel is rising in the UK this week-I wonder if the price in Bellfield will magically rise aswell.

On another note, when will all the grit spread around the town be swept up.The steps at the top of Castle Hill are lethal because of it.
Would be a good idea to store it for future use instead of dumping it all and paying for more.

Had the joy of using the new playground with my kid at Bellfield today-dogsh!te on the slide and the area around it with more in various places around the playground, litter everywhere and graffiti (the morons even wrote their full names). Considering the prescence of cctv how come nobody has been brought to task over the defacing and damage? I avoided the prom due to the state of it only to be faced with that.Won't be rushing back.

That's depressing news! I have never been into the new playground but will make it my business to pay a visit soon. There are far too many dogs loose around the town - not too mention people who walk their dogs with no intention of cleaning up after them.

Has anyone passed by the castle recently? Did I see nice new white pvc windows in there today?:eek:
Looks awful and there is still no sign of it re-openning:(

Unfortunately, you most certainly did. Was down that way over Christmas, and to say I was disappointed to see it is an understatement. Even if they had to go with PVC, they could have gotten darker ones, or something that would stand out less glaringly.

Finally...some good news for Enniscorthy. Clearstream have announced 100 new jobs over the next 3 years. Great to see an indigenous company doing so well.

A small discussion I had on the castle nightclubs wall show the bad mentality the people in this town have towards businesses. I suggested doing offers on spirits instead of just beer, and while the club agreed and said they would be doing them in the near future I was told by another person that I was getting very cheeky. Its the mentality of the people in this town that let the businesses get away with being sub par. When I compared the Castle to any club in Dublin where admission is normally free or at the most €3 and drinks are a lot less expensive they replied. "Well Jason in fairness, how long has it been in enniscorthy where the club actually is , that you could see a live band, enjoy a dj and late bar for a fiver, and get three drinks for a tenner?". So because they lower their prices for one weekend they're seen as saints? The place is normally the biggest rip off going.

I was then told that I must be lost and that I'm not in Dublin. I bet these are the same people who complain about the lack of services in this county.

They're getting the beer to actually taste like beer and not vinegar.

With the road repairs going on at Templescoby it demonstrates the level of care being taken of the roads, literally feet away the road is like something that has been carpet bombed.Seeing as this small road running through the Still leads to a "world class spa destination" it's a bad advertisement for the area.
I can imagine visitors heading home after a relaxing weekend...."The Spa was amazing,so relaxing but now I'm in bits after driving along the road from it and my car is wrecked"
Council workers threw a few shovels of tar here and there on it and actually made it WORSE!!!

I know the Council said they were holding back on road repairs until the Winter cold was gone but if we have a major and world famous attraction on our doorstep they could at least fix the road to it, first impressions last and having an impression made on your car due to the state of the roads isn't a nice one.

Whether it is the posts here or just a coincidence but the littering at the back of St.Mary's CBS on St.John's Street has declined massively in recent days. A new litter bin, near the pedestrian crossing, was filled to capacity when I passed at 2.00pm today and there was relatively little litter on the grassy areas. I wonder is the principal a Boardsie? :D

You'd be surprised at who tunes into the Wexford forum.

I know that our friends at Enniscorthy Garda Station like to have a browse from time to time.

Whilst I'm here I'd like to say hi to the 2 Gardai who questioned me in relation to 'suspicious activity' as I went around Enniscorthy last week taking documentary photos of the town with my camera. Apparently I may have been planning an ATM raid... <insert rolling tumbleweed here>

Bad timing again I would suggest - who in their right mind is looking for carpets in the teeth of this recession? As for Iceland coming to the old Dunnes Stores - surely even Dunnes, shambolic and all as it is, aren't stupid enough to let the opposition in so close to them?

Corrigans are not a new venture to open up. Corrigan carpets and floors have been in business for years in town. All Eugene {owner} is doing is moving from the Duffry hill to a new unit at Dunnes stores also he has a warehouse out the Oulart road.

Iceland are a different proposition to the likes of Tesco and with the town centre needing businesses open I can see them opening without too much opposition.Just look at Aldi-they are opening a store in Bunclody which is hardly a huge place and has 2 supermarkets already.
I for one am sick of going around town and seeing empty sorry looking buildings so anything in them is a bonus and will give consumers choice. We already have the weekend exodus to other towns for shopping and I hope we don't compound the situation by losing another business to somewhere else.
We all know the result of the farce over Tesco due to one business man objecting and setting up a campaign against the store. That worked out well for the town:rolleyes: Hope said businessman has sold lots of paintings as a result.

Lads I just thought I'd ask your opinion on the Enniscorthy accent? I know it may seem silly, but I was just wondering do you Wexford people like it? People that tend to be born and rared in Enniscorthy, and then move out of it for several years never lose the accent. I know a lot of women from Enniscorthy and I when talk they all sound the same. It really feels weird, and the speed at which they talk is faster than any other town accent in the county aswell.

I knew it was too good to be true. Passed again yesterday 2.15pm and two CE workers were picking up loads of litter from the grass outside the school.

If you have the time I recommend calling up to The Moyne today and checking out the condition of the road at the Greenville Lane junction. It's most definetly one of the sorriest roads you will see around the town. After the rain all the botch filled potholes have emptied out for the gazillionth time.

Then factor in the decision to grant planning permission, for I don't know how many hundred houses, in this area over the past 10-15 has increased the traffic considerably - at a guess I'd say by a factor of 10... so that doesn't help matter either.

Not only is it a disgrace it is also extremely dangerous. People are having to drive all over the road in an attempt to protect their cars from damage.

If your car isn't completely wrecked from that then drive from the Milehouse through the Still to the N30.Even the contractors resurfacing the N30 at Templescoby were shocked at the state of the road saying it was one of the worst they'd seen.
A few token shovels of delay set tarmac won't fix it.But this seems to be the solution in the minds of the council just like the 'repairs' carried out along Bellfield road-there's more tar piled up on the footpath than on the road.

More bad news for the town - the Slaney Plaza cinema is to close on March 6th with the loss of seven jobs. Bad news for us locals and bad news for the town as a tourism centre where having a cinema is a useful facility in our wonderful climate. I'm only surprised it lasted this long as any time I've brought the kids it has been virtually empty. Poor location and very poor marketing IMO. :(

That's really sad news... my young lad is set to go down there on Friday with the school to watch a movie. Sad to see the town losing a facility like this.

That's a shame about the cinema, they were finding it harder and harder to compete with the Omniplex in Wexford.Maybe we'll see a bigger more modern one opening in town with easy parking available.
