Dara O'Briain is a legend! I would say the best comedian in the world not just Ireland.

I uploaded his new DVD in case anyone wants to watch it.

    Dara O'Briain
Dylan Moran (possibly my favourite though he could lose the "drunk" thing. It adds nothing)
    Ed Byrne
Kevin McAleer (though I don't see much of him)
    Ardal O'Hanlon

Looking at my list of favourites, I think I prefer comedians that tell a story that's going somewhere and give you time to engage. I'm not into comedians that fire 200 one-liners at you.

    Dylan Moran all the way.

But I have to agree his recent stuff has been a bit sloppy.

I like Dara O'Brians standup though he does come across as a bit of an arse at times.

It's not harsh at all. His material has been rubbish for the last few years, long before his Dad got sick. He makes his living from stand up comedy and it's weak the last few years. Nothing to do with his Dad's ill health.

there's a dearth of irish comics, Dara ob being probably the best, then dylan moran imo. (jimmy carr-though not strictly irish...)

Used to like Des actually, until a friend went to see him in england.....he didn't realise there were irish @ the gig/or if there was he took the serious piss outta them (iirc it was a college 'do' )
he fookin lambasted the Irish, reinforcing the 'thick mick' paddywhackery others are known for...now this friend would be extremely laid back and normally wouldn't give a shoite....apparently he was outrageous.
even my mates english pakls thought it was offensive
i've no probs with takin the piss outta ourselves but Des would do well to remember his career blossomed in ireland ... anyways he lost a few regulars punters that night.

I have a friend that despises Des Bishop because he's always pointed out that when he does his standup and makes jokes about Ireland and the Irish..It's all the Irish, Irish people, You guys etc. He doesn't identify with the Irish and just ****es all over us and people eat it up here.

Dara O'Briain by a mile for me, I saw him once in cork and his Audience interaction side splittlingly funny.

I know Ed Byrne gets a bit of stick but anytime I've seen him he's been hilarious, I think poeple might be getting him mixed up with the hugely unfunny Jason Byrne who thinks laughing his way through his routine is comedy.

Have seen Dara O'Briain, Dylan Moran, Tommy Tiernan, Colm Murphy and JP Gallagher live and loved each show.

Still on the fence with Neil Delamare, seen him once and his show was very good but his TV stuff is more miss than hit.

Dylan moran is brilliant. Can't think of another irish comedian in his league. Liked des bioshop's recent doc on his dad. It was really touching when his dad was backstage and saying how proud he was of his son. Very sweet, but alas, not very funny. It wasn't supposed to be , was it?

Monster by Dylan Moran was easily the best comedy show I ever went to. However his last show - What it is - was pretty poor.

I think Dylan Moran is the best. A lot of great stuff on youtube of him. There's no other Irish comedians that really stand out to me at the moment.

How can someone be declared the 'best comedian', when our individual choice is totally subjective?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,591 ✭✭✭STIG83

    Des Bishop

Dylan Moran and Dara O'Briain are definitely the top two.

After that, I'm not sure. I'm one of the few people who seems to like Ed Byrne. :o And Maeve Higgins can be really funny but can also be cringeworthingly bad at times. Same for Neil Delamere. Very hit and miss.

Can't stand Jason Byrne, Tommy Tiernan, Andrew Maxwell or Katherine Lynch.
