Reading any thread about Irish comedians or comedy most people regard our finest funny friends not funny at all.
So who do you think is the funnist living Irish person.
Mario Rosenstock gives me a laugh most mornings.
Neil Delimere can be funny enough too.
Tommy Tiernan is allright but alot of the time is trying too hard to be funny and fails.
Then you have that lot that RTE think are funny, but clearly not eg katheryn Lynch, Brendan O'Carroll and Andrew Maxwell.
There is that lot who have made it big in England like Doire O'Brein and the other one.
    So who is the funnist?
Might put a poll up once I get a few nominations.

Andrew Maxwell, he's censored on RTÈ so you don't get to hear his really good material.

Dara O'Briain. Saw him live. He's brilliant.

Dara O Briain is he only Irish comedian I would have the time for.The rest of them can sail away on a big boat with McSavage slagging them playing some shoite on the guitar. They can take turns on that Lynch one to shut her up

PJ Gallagher is off his head, he's the best stand up at the moment, one genuinely funny fcuker.

    McSavage.

Dylan Moran, I like his sporadic drunken rambling.

I agree with Dara O'Briain - so pleased he's getting kudos here. I was afraid to open the thread to be honest. lol!

I think Maeve Higgins can be hilarious, not always, but often.

    Dylan Moran is good.

I can't stand Tommy Tiernan, Ed Byrne, Jason Byrne.

Liked Des Bishop but he needs new material urgently.

Dermot Morgan was fantastic. I had the privilege of seeing his show in UCC in the late 80s - pure genius, RIP.

    Yes. He's absolutely brilliant live.

Was at Tommy Tiernan last week and he was excellent too.

I also adore Dylan Moran as well.

Harsh. His dad's not been well.

Dara first, but David O'Doherty is a close second for me

Definitely Dara O Briain and Dylan Moran

    Kevin McAleer maybe?

I like Tommy Tiernan, i'm a sucker for sick sense of humour tho.
Watched him on bbc at the Apollo tho and he came across way too Irish for an English audience

Actually after my first post I fear saying this but I do like the D O D!

Met him in a Burger King in Sydney a few years ago

Dylan Moran,David O'Doherty or Kevin McAleer.
Maeve Higgins is decent enough too.

Ed Byrne,Tiernan,Delamere/Maxwell would be the worst.

It's not harsh at all. His material has been rubbish for the last few years, long before his Dad got sick. He makes his living from stand up comedy and it's weak the last few years. Nothing to do with his Dad's ill health.

Tommy Tiernan's rubbish! All he does is swear and yell really loudly for the entire show, and passes it off as comedy. "Oh, he said fuck! Hilarious!" Abysmal.

I like Dara O Briain and Dylan Moran. Two very different styles but both very witty and amusing.

Oh definitely. Truly hilarious human being. I saw him live in the late 80s too and he I couldn't breathe from laughing so much.

I've been saying this since i first saw him years ago before he was popular. Weak material done at a higher volume is still weak material.

His attempts at being edgy are painfully naff as well.

David O'Doherty is my current favourite.

Dylan Moran circa his Monster tour was untouchable - he's slacked off a bit lately.

Shazwanda. She's the funniest northsider on either side of the river.
As for those you only watch on the tellybox I have to go with Dara O'B.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Not many proper comedians in Ireland.
    Dara O' Briain is watchable.
    Mcaleer is funny.
Some of Michael Redmond's stuff years ago is funnier than any of the stuff nowadays-
"A lot of people say to me... get out of my garden" etc.

For comic talent and output of new material I'd have to say Mario Rosenstock.
Stand up performance is an art in itself, almost to an extent, regardless of the quality of the material. Heard of a comedian once who came out on stage and just said "What?" to the audience for 15 mins. Now, that set on paper, would not look good - but it worked for that audience.

Has to be Dara O Briain,

saw him live a few times now and he was brilliant, very funny....

Ed Byrne can be funny when he is with dara...not so much on his own.

I'll have to go with Dara, I used to love Dylan Moran but I thought his latest show was rubbish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 450 ✭✭fred252

    dylan moran

i agree his most recent show isn't his best but the second half of it had me in ribbons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,308 ✭✭✭kiddums

Neil Delamare, seen him live 6 times now and I still get sore laughing.

Colin Murphy (If you want to talk about the Island as a whole), seen him live 5 times and met him in the pub one night. Sound guy and genuinely hilarious.

Dara O'Brien, I would love for him to come near me so I can go see him.

+1, he's the only Irish comedian i'd listen to right now and there is nobody even close to him.

Edit; Actually ye Dylan Moran would be up there too, he's not my favorite, i really hate the way he acts drunk after a sip of wine and starts slurring his words but other than that he is a top top comedian.

Dara O Briain and Ed byrne, theyre very funny together. Although Dara annoys me when he says 'eh' after every joke he says. Its annoying.

It's all part of his stage persona and the show in general.

Dara O Briain. One of the funniest I've ever seen. Smart, witty and his audience interaction really makes every show.

After that, the only other Irish comedian I'd like is Dylan Moran. Ed Byrne can be alright, but usually isn't.

    Dylan Moran, forever.

I'm frankly shocked so many people actually like Dara O'Brien tbh.

    I think he's a pile of ****e.
