What do you do to make yourself feel better when it's your lady time?

I started my period this morning, very sore cramps and am feeling very mopey. Went to bed at 7.30pm last night as I was so tired so knew they would arrive soon.
Think I'm gonna spend the day in my jammies watching the Gilmore Girls or something equally as girly. Will defo be over indulging in chocolate and tea this afternoon too.
So what do you ladies do to make yourselves feel better during your time of the month?

I get up and go to work like any other day.

edit- so this doesn't seem overly sharp, I genuinely mean I don't make a fuss out of a period and this makes me feel 1000 times better.

    Fair enough!!

I wanted to know what people do to make themselves feel better when they're not feeling great. I'm aware that life goes on!

Agree with Fatmammycat, I just carry on as normal. But then I never notice any ill-effects when I get it, it's just another day for me. Except no sex, boo :p

I die for the first 24-48 hours (really bad pains, can't move sometimes, painkillers like nurofen and solpadeine merely take the edge off so i'm not sobbing into my pillow). After that I just go about my business, if I can.

It's a nightmare and I'm always jealous of women who can just keep going because they don't get cramps etc. i don't necessarily feel low, but the pain tend to be like someone is stabbing me repeatedly in the uterus for 5 days. Not exactly easy to come in and motivate yourself to read in the library when you have that feeling!!

I'd be the same as Fatmammycat - I use to suffer badly during periods but after making changes to my diet it's rarely an issue anymore. As I work mainly freelance to tight deadlines when I am feeling unwell I can't afford to slack too much or I won't met my deadlines which can suck when you've got a bad dose of a cold that's been going around. I do find taking 20 mins to sit on the couch/bed with my cat and listening to him purr a bit of help.

    WTF is lady time?

Oh right, period, why can't people just say period? It's just a word.

I just get on with my day, if it's particularly bad I try and get more sleep and I stay away from chocolate and sugar, I'm hormonal enough without a sugar crash to cope with. Drinking lots of water helps with the soreness of breasts too I find.

When I was a student, I used to lie in bed feeling sorry for myself but now I just try to get on with it (despite being unemployed and having less to do now than I did then) and avoid the temptation to eat condensed milk with digestive biscuits (every single period, same craving).

Cleaning makes me pretty happy as well, my period brings out some sort of OCD compulsion to clean windowsills and the toaster and the back of presses and hoover curtains. I don't complain though because I couldn't be bothered doing it any other time of the month.

Electric blanket/hot water bottle at the end of the day makes it so much easier to fall asleep when you're riddled with cramps as well.

Dont get periods anymore (implanon) but get all the symptoms just as bad or worse - headwrecker :D leccy blanket helps a treat, and a hot bath and a glass of wine is the ultimate cure although thats for a bad day just as much as cramps :D
All in all though, get on with stuff and keep your mind busy, your body will follow suit.

I just carry on as normal, I eat everything in sight though, I ate two full packets of biscuits yesterday after college :(

I am after discovering Ponstan has become about as effective as mars bars for fixing stomach cramps. I swear to God if this **** does not go away after my operation I will shoot someone.

Day two is the heavy crampy one for me, but I find making myself into a ball and the above helps :pac: The other days, no problem :)

Since I went on the pill I dont get cramps too badly anymore, maybe just one day of bearable pain. If I'm in pain I'll make some hot chocolate and chill out on the couch!

I do use it as an excuse to eat loads of junk though :D

YES, thank you!! I hate when women use these coy or cutsey euphemisms to describe their cycle, their reproductive/sexual parts or health and gyny. issues like lady time, "lady bits" or the worst one-"women's problems"... ffs
How do you expect to be taken seriously when you use words like that?? (not you obv. maple,)

You don't see men using phrases like "gentlemen's bits" or talking about prostate problems for example as "men's problems".

In answer to the OP-I just try and carry on as normal. The first day I do get cramps but I go for a walk or cycle and that helps I find.
I also find incidentally that my cramps have lessened since I changed over to using a Moon Cup instead of tampons. I love my Moon Cup :D, only pity is I didn't change over years ago.

I like to describe it in gory, graphic detail to my husband.

I'm evil at heart, you see.

"Come look! A hunk of my uterus is floating in the toilet RIGHT NOW!"

(Suffice it to say, I do NOT refer to it by euphemistic terms such as "lady time")

I don't suffer. Luckily. But like to use it as a way to justify eating lots of chocolate.

Get cramps, back pain and headaches for the first few days, it's a pisser. I have yet to find a painkiller that works and I've tried plenty.

Day 1 - Whinge, bitch and moan about everything and eat loads.

Day 2 - Lie on the couch with the duvet and eat loads.

    Day 3 - Normality resumes.

    Rinse and repeat monthly

I go about my normal routine, just do it while clutching my stomach and going 'ow ow ow ow'. I get really bad road rage too, I try and drive as little as possible lest I kill someone.

In the evening I eat a bag of nachos and shout at the TV.

ya me i'm a bit of a moaner bout these things. i always tell my other half that i'm having some quality time with the hot water bottle/ or that my belly is sore and he knows exactly what i'm talking about. all i want to do is sleep really when/if i'm lucky to be off. or spend the day watching dvd's. not a huge chocolate lover but ya every second month can be bad for me and can take upto two days for pain to fade away but once it's gone ya i carry on as normal i'm afraid.

i suppose i love telling my OH just to let him know he won't be a daddy anytime soon:)

Why does everyone eat chocolate? I find when I was have period I have no appetite. And just don't want to eat when I'm all bloated :/

But yeah, generally I just carry on as normal. Try to take no notice of it. This week on the first day of my period I was in a freezing cold salon at 8 in the morning doing a photoshoot...was torture! The worst part was there was a pharmacy two doors town full of lovely painkillers but I couldn't move :(

It's only the first day of my period that is ever bad for me, thank god! I find exercising also works.

Luckily I don't suffer with pain, but I do get quite irritable. So generally I try to not commit murder snap too much at people. I tend to feel uncomfortably bloated as well, yet despite that I have a ridiculous appetite.

I get quiet teary at times, but all is solved with some chocolate, tea and special boyfriend belly rubs, kisses and cuddles.

If I have to work, I usually take a bottle of aspirin with me and take two before I start and maybe one or two before I finish. Work is such a drag with it. :(
    :(

    - DVDs
    - Pj's
    - Internets
    - Boyfriend cuddles
    - Chocolate, ice-cream and various types of junk food
    - A nice long shower to make me feel fresher :)

I'm generally just a little more compassionate towards myself, let myself eat crap, have a few private little cries over absolutely nothing, maybe watch a few soppy movies or depressing music to help with the process.

I don't suffer too badly, although I do get a bit weepy, the odd cramp and get ridiculously horny for some reason, never fails! Which isn't much fun as I don't exactly feel like a sex goddess during those few days but whatever, I'm sure mother nature gets a right laugh out of it

Lord, I think the OP was just being polite to be honest. I do the same sometimes, I admit I too say "time of the month," or "lady issue,"

@OP, I relax for the day, because quite frankly unless Ive work or college, It can be impossible to move, Im exhausted during it, so I kick out for the day and relax. Usually I'm feeling better after 2 days.

Since having the mirena coil fitted last year, I don't get any cramps and bleed very little. My periods used to be a real ordeal.
    Highly recommend it.
