Hmmm i wonder are they legally seperated? If they have nothing signed maybe the husband will have a better case.

If i was him i'd take her to the cleaners as women usually do to the poor men folk!

He didn't really kiss goodbye to millions though, because she wouldn't have bought that particular lottery ticket were they still together.

I'm sure she will give him something.

I think he left her for another woman so Id imagine the other woman is a little nervous now.

What's the bets he want's to go back to his wife.

The seperation sounds to be pretty amicable so I can't imagine there being much hostility, then again, money can show a different side to a person.

I wonder why she went public though or do you have to with US lotterys?

Lucky woman, hope it brings her happiness.

    Some lotto winners annoy me.

You won 21.5 million dollars - get the fecking business class home, how often do you get a chance to do that!

    Jesus wept.

I fückin' know. She's got 21 mill burning a hole in her arse pocket and she flies "cattle class" back to Tullamore. Fückin' knacker.

By the way...Long Beach New York is a slum. Been there. She should move to Monaco or Biarritz. Although they mightn't be able to find the tae-bags so easy, like!

F#ckin stupid lotto amounts. 21+ million is too much for anyone. Why not break it up, twenty-one people could win a million each.

I would be sickened thinking I won $21 mill only to see it taxed beyond the heavens and only recieve $8 mill. I'd get over it pretty fast tho.

Ive won FA on the Irish lottery.

Cant buy the UK one unless you have a UK credit card, or want to drive up north every few weeks, not arsed.

I'm sure i've seen some shops in Ireland that do the UK lotto

They wear it like a badge of honour too.

'oh I'll just turn up to ma mundane job on munday mornin', 6am, as I always do'
Fucking fools, should have their lotto confiscated.

But why is he entitled to any of it?

I do understand that when in a marriage a couple share the money, and if they divorce the man/woman gets a share because in the eyes of the law they contributed to the success (or whatever you want to call it) in gaining that money.

BUT how does this apply in this situation, where the woman won the lotto all by herself? Why should he get any of it, if he had no part in winning the money?

    lol

Even if a man got 20m dollars by working 2 million hours down a coalmine, the wife would still get half.

If I recall, they don't give you the full winnings immediately. You get a small lump sum, and the rest is given over a period of 10-25 years or something.

Well, unless they've changed the rules.

Do you get the interest on it too?

This is why you should never go public with a lottery win

If i won the lotto i would give my ex husband some of the money because even though we are not married anymore and i am engaged to someone, he is the father of my children and he has been good to me, unless you hate them or they were a bad person why wouldn't you want to give them something.

if she's still an Irish citizen could we sting her for tax if she comes home? :D

I don't agree with her having to give half her fortune to him.

If it was the other way around people would be up in arms about it. It is the laws that have to be looked at and descending into a gender argument is pointless.

21 mil is not nearly as much as you would get on the Euromillion or something. 21 mil is a fine amount to get, and i'm sure any person who won it wouldn't be complaining.

Possibly entitled to it but then again Callely was entitled to what he took from the Irish taxpayer. Stupid entitlements.

Nah I don't think he should get any of it.

Thread title fail, the man did not "kiss millions goodbye when he walked out on a lottery winner" as she hadn't won anything when he left her.

    Jeez...

She won 21 million ... but do you know how much she actually gets? It's something like 7.6 million, due to tax ... can you believe that? Stinger!

She's up, she's down, she's up again! If I were her ex I'd sign away any claim before she lands him in debt.

It'll depend on the law in the area and how it regards winnings such as these. If they're classed as income then he'll probably have a claim on them. By the sounds of it, the divorce was amicable and their still friends so hopefully he'll be happy with whatever decision she makes.

Good for her. I hope she doesn't squander it but with kids and all I guess she'll prob put a lot away for their colleges etc.

This I can never understand either "oh yeah I won 10 million quid but I'm gonna keep my job at McDonalds" or the "I'd only get bored if I wasnt working" now I dunno about anyone else, but if I had a few million quid and was set for life on the interest it'd make alone I'dsure as sh1te not get bored, imagine how cool itd be to just be able to afford to arrive at an airport with a packed bag and a passport, and just go...anywhere? it'd be the first thing I'd do (after quitting work in spectacular fashion of course)

A lot of people don't like travelling alone. Also a lot of people like having a normal life and fit in with the crowd so to speak. Some people couldn't handle being that different.

Regarding work well for a lot of people their life revolves around work. They might hate the job but like the people, and would feel out of the loop if they quit.

Some feckin' load of begrudgers on this thread.

Sure if she was planning on moving to Paris and bought a Ferrari and god knows what else ye'd all be off ranting about how lotto winners love to show off their cash and act all posh and how they should remember where they came from!

    Any excuse to complain! :pac:

Good for her for being responsible about it imo, hope she enjoys her winnings.
