Ive been playin first person shooter games since I was a wee thing.

I have yet to contemplate mass murder, suicide bombing, hijacking cars or fleecing hookers.

I have got good hand eye co-ordination tho!

A lot of levels in games reflect stuff that has happened/will happen in the future, doesnt mean it causes it!

No, you'll have to work in an office for a while for those urges to start.

I'm fairly sure Medal of Honor was the key blame for the outbreak of WWII

Yaaaaaaaaaawn. Age old story about how video games are the cause for all the bad in the world. Terrorsits love MW2, car-jackers love GTA, blah, blah, blah.

I'm just waiting for the day that the world gets invaded by evil aliens, and gamers kicks their collective ass, and send them back to Mars. Then suddenly, gaming will be the good guy... And I'll get to shoot me some aliens too :D

    Noted.

So playing COD while in work would be a particularly bad idea then ? Considering I work in an office in the airport I think Im the perfect terrorist candidate...

What I want to know, is what game was Hitler & Stalin playing? I bet it was something by Infinity Ward.

Oh, and I haven't killed anyone since I started playing video games. Up until that point, I was killing once per month on average.
I've noticed the rise in hookers alright.....

And then pokemon gets blamed for every case of animal abuse ever.

Do I think video games are to blame for more recent acts of terrorism? No

However, I've played all the COD games and in particular when that scene opened in MW2 in the airport (re: OPs embedded youtube vid), I did feel a bit of "this isn't right" in the pit of my stomach. It was designed to be immersive and generate that sort of response, impact and it did!.

I remember back around '95/'96 playing Phantasmagoria on the PC and during that game the main character is raped during a video cut scene by her demented husband, and I'm not talking Leisure Suit Larry style. Again I wasn't expecting to see that, and it did give me a "this isn't right" feeling too. However in that example, the player wasn't "in control" of the scene which definitely makes a difference.

I know that these games are intended for mature gamers, but I'm certain that kids have played them too. It's not Infinity Ward's or Activision's fault that kids get their hands on MW2, but I think we are still in a transitional period where parents born in the 60s and earlier are still oblivious to how immersive gaming has become, nevermind the actual content in some games.

When I was a teenager, and bought Phantasmagoria I might as well have been buying Loco Roco for all the shop staff cared. I bought it because I loved games like The 7th Guest / The 11th Hour & Ripper and the use of video cut scenes in games was still a novelty. However when I saw some of the game's content, at 15 years of age it dawned on me that gaming was taking a strange new turn simply because the technology was there to allow it.

It didn't mean it was right or necessary IMO.

The world we would live in now if joseph goebbles had video game's in his arsenal of propaganda.

Add's, tv ,news, comic books, fairy tale's and film have been used to desensatize people into finding un acceptable things in society more acceptable, Its very plausable that game's are being used in the same way right now.

But people have been blaming video games for fcuk-ups in secioty since the dawn of time. So nothing about this is really news. Controversy follows gaming like flies to crap.

I remember the first time I ever saw Mortal Kombat. I was on the BBC news one morning back in the 90's while I was getting ready to head to school. It showed a couple of clips filled with blood and gore, and a few outraged parents. Then it showed Scorpion finishing is opponent. The reporter spoke about how this would effect every child who plays it and turn them all into murderers, and how the streets would be unsafe for the rest of forever because this game's release surely marked the end of civilization itself.

... I was hooked, there and then!

Here we go with the cliches again.

"Better to have a gun and not need it than need it and not have it!"
"Better to bet judged by 12 than carried by 6"

    Blah, blah, blah!

    "These colours don't run!" Blah!

"Violent games aren't going to turn someone into a violent person anymore than NOT playing games are going to turn a psychopath into a perfectly sane person"

Did you read that before you hit the submit button? Because it has to be the most stupid statement I've ever read in my life.

Are you implying that all game players are gun toting rednecks?

playing games is no more "retarded" than watching guys kick a ball around field or caring about who wins the X-Factor, its a hobby, and a fun one at that.

btw the games industry is larger than both the film and music industry at the moment, so theres an awful lot of retards out there.

Why does anyone even play these games anyway? They're fcuking retarded.

    Because they are fun

Video games, all bad and evil things that happen on this earth must be connected to them!
