    Is it a Boards choice to have a minimum 4 character rule when searching for words or is that a vBulletin limit you guys can't do anything about?

    IIRC it's a Boards decision to keep the strain off the servers thus making Boards a happier healthier and faster place for everyone. Damned annoying though.
    There are workarounds - enter your search parameter followed by "site:Boards.ie" into the google thingy and you should get back some results.

    There is a completely new search on the way. The guts of the work have been done, we're just working on the UI for it at the moment. It's a pretty huge project, so it'll take a good bit more testing before we can launch it, but it's well on the way to completion.

    The new search has no lower limit on the length of a search term and it also properly supports phrase searching among plenty of other useful features.

    In fairness, unless there's a directive somewhere saying "don't do this", it's going to be used (but not by me any more). I assume it's because you don't want to draw attention to the option? In which case you should edit out my quote from your post

    It's actually a bug that vBulletin allows it. It's not a deliberate feature. Fixing the bug is irritating/difficult though.

    Thanks for that Conor. It only struck me when trying to search Raw on the TV forum (don't judge me!). Glad to hear a new one is on the way.
