    Yeah grand no bother.
Is it right to assume that whilst http://www.vuplus-support.co.uk/ and http://www.world-of-satellite.com/ are down that I won't be able to download plugins for the box whilst using the VIX image.

    Have you tried them ?

Yep, been trying to access them all day from home. Tried them from a remote server under a different ISP, still nothing. Tried via IP also, in case DNS had problems resolving host names, no joy either. Tried to ping but requests timing out....overkilll????

    2. Stability. How stable will this be once set up? e.g. If I was away from home for a few weeks/months, could I rely on this setup to continue working without any issues for all the non techies at home?

    Anyone?

It's all very new, we are early adopters. It'll take a few months of software upgrades to get it totally stable. For now it's grand and there is great support / forums / user communities for VIX and other images.

It's not a point that you should use to measure or decide on as its all new.

    Cheers dnme.

But it is a point if non techies cannot use it and I am not there to find an update/fix.

Are there any plans in 2011 for a new release of Vu+ Duo from the manufacturers, that may include a direct built-in DTT tuner (not the USB route) and a sat cable out option to feed a second Satellite bo

As long as it was setup well the only thing your family would really have to do is be able to do is reset the box (plug out and in). If softcams etc fail reset is the most brutal way but effective way of sorting it out. EPG updates etc would need to be shown.

These boxes are in no way a plug and play unit even when setup correctly.

Folks, the way I work is to get the item, enjoy it and if/when a newer / better version or alternative comes along, I consider it and if it's something I want, I simply sell the old one and upgrade. It makes the cost of ownership quite cheap and I still enjoy all the gadgets.

Realistically, in the crazy modern sped-up world, there is no longevity in any piece of kit. New stuff comes along all the time so I just wouldn't worry about it. Ride the tide to suit yourself.

    Folks,

My Nova-T USB DTT tuner arrived yesterday. I wanted to try it out so I threw up openpli image onto the duo. I was very impressed. It does everything out of the box with a few plugin downloads.

    The Nova-T works perfectly
My sky ftv card works perfectly
    CrossEPG
    Youtube
    Web interface
    VLC Player
    etc etc

It seems far more stable than VIX. If you go near some of the above plugins on VIX, it crashes all over the place.

I gotta say, give this image a try. It's the biz. I can't understand why more people are not using it and why the huge attraction to vix over it ?

I like the openpli image too.

The interface is much easier to read.

Does the tv button (bottom left) do anything when you press it?

Did you have to do much to get the nova-t stick to work?

TV Button brings me back to TV mode if I have been in radio.

To get Nova-T to work, you just download a plugin
    Menu - Plugins - Drivers.

It then becomes available as a tuner
Menu - Setup - Service Searching - Tuner Config

dnme - I see that Nova DTT Tuner on pixmania for about 60 quid - is that where you got it or could you recommend a cheaper place to buy it please?

I'm still waiting on my vu+ to arrive, so not decided at all yet between VIX and openpli, thanks for the recommendation.

    DNME,

I switched too from vix 1.3.
Found it got sluggish and prone to odd funny things.
It was hard to put my finger on a specific problem but there doesnt seem to be the same problems with PLi.

I used PLi pre vix 1.1 but think its much better now.

Ive ordered nova-t (after reading your post) and wonder if EPG for terestrial worked staright out of the box or had you to install downloader or switch to particular channel to download epg.

And is the scan for DTT in the same menu as fro satellites.

Finally one PLi question. Can the TV button be changed so when you press it in movie playback you get back to channel or to a menu rather than the movie list.

The epg seems to work fine for DTT. It took a while but I noticed that channels were populated next day.

I don't really like the EPG on openpli TBH. It is not intuitive but maybe it's more customizable then I am realising. As for the TV button - no idea.

there is a crossepg plugin available on pli server, much better than rytec.

I use CrossEPG all the time, That's not what I meant. I'm talking about the look, feel and usability of the epg interface in pli. Dont like that

rytec and crossepg are surely the same in all images.
