Or...the whole thing could be just a ruse to show FF as a strong party and that Cowen has come through with flying colours from another challenge from a select few.

    Shall wait and see...

The damage to FF has been done now with the latest revelations. The question their current sitting TD's need to ask themselves is if they want this pariah leading them into the next General Election given what appears to be his special relationship with leading lights of the Bank that ended up helping to break the country.

I can't imagine those who will be contesting the next GE relishing the bile they will face on the doorsteps if Cowen continues leading them given his disastrous tenure as Minister for Finance and Taoiseach. At least if he is gone they can deflect some of the anger they will face.

If thats all that will happen then its back to normal.
FF drag things out as long as possible, the Greens stick to them like glue and the opposition forced to wait yet again...

newstalk saying he wont go, unless he's pushed. (hard to believe, doubt this)

    and pushed he will be.

Lenihan i'd say has a grave yard full of skeletons in is closet. I'm not sure how much the others have but they have them.

If you make corruption easy people will be corrupt.

The only way that FF could survive in the future is do a New Labour job on it but I dont there is any one in the party to do it.

I am hoping he does because with him at the helm for the GE FF are well and truly sunk. A bit like the way he has sunk our economy.

Part of me is hoping he will, if only to bring down the rest because of him staying.

    Cowen 'not resigning'

    surprise, surprise.

On the bright side, this massively damages any chance Fianna Fail had a recovering before the election

I have a four letter word to say to that:
    Good!

If sinn fein does bring about this no confidence vote, anyone who does plan on hanging around after the next election should seriously think about this vote because the voters may not forget it!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,279 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

What means can be used to get rid of him without him resigning?

Other than a vote of no confidence is there anything else?

I just heard he had stepped down, from a friend in the Dail!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,515 ✭✭✭maynooth_rules

He has a neck like a jockeys sack. I am glad of it though. Bring down the party with him. No surprise that nobody in FF will show the back bone to launch a heave against the guy. Shows the utter lack of credible TDs in that stinking party.

Agree with this. Cowen will bring down all of FF with him which is what we need - all of FF to go.

Where is SF when we need violence. Hope they are gathering up an army to remove FF good and proper.

I am staunch FF and if I was as worried about what is happening right now in FF as the ABFF are I would be looking for medication !

**** that phrase 'staunch FF' annoys me. Surely you should be staunch nobody and vote for a party whos policies you agree with, rather than using the staunch FF/FG/SF or anyone else

People dont vote for policy. If they did we wouldnt be here

Why does that surprise you. They are nearly a cult. How people can support a party that has meted financial Armageddon on this country is beyond me. But lo and behold around 20% are remaining loyal.

Ya, because violence is the solution to our problems,

FF are going, they may be taking their time about it, but they will be gone in a few short months.
