For anyone who has trouble getting "iphone compatible" headsets to work with the Blade, this little cable definitely works:

Tried it with two headsets over the weekend one with mic one without and both worked perfectly. Mic functionality also worked.

I'd say yes. It does give a performance boost, and some apps only run on 2.2. However, the radio won't work using the standard ZTE radio app. Some guy on Modaco has written a replacement radio app for the Blade that does work on Froyo.

Out of curiosity what iPhone do you have? Seems a bit of an odd upgrade path if it's a more recent one.

Android and the ZTE handset are a bit more work than I bargained for, too.

I had a 3gs but sold it ages ago, have been through a few phones in the meantime, different nokias mainly. Wasn't a straight transition from iphone to android!

To be fair there's really no more work involved than jailbreaking an iPhone. And the link provided earlier in this thread really does contain everything you need. If you take your time, read some of the posts in this thread it should be very straightforward, plus there are plenty of folks here willing to help IF you get stuck.
I jumped from iPhone 2G to Android/ZTE Blade and there is no way I would move back. Once you get a Blade up and running with a custom Rom it really does blow the iPhone away.

Well I wouldn't be coming from that perspective. I had a cheap Nokia phone before this. I'm managing but, for example, reading the modaco forum when I first got the phone left me wondering what the hell a "nandroid backup" was - and why the modaco guide hadn't mentioned it. Took me a while to figure out that the clockwork backup was the same thing. Tinkering around with the device is just less user friendly than I expected.

Next I'll look into HW acceleration and try to figure out if (or why) I should repartition the phone memory. :D

Two good threads to get you up to speed are here . . .

This one demystifies some of the jargon used on Modacco forums:

    http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/328311/guide-android-glossary-ideal-for-new-users/

And this one deals with some common problems in getting a ROM installed and up and running. . . .

    http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/328982/guide-common-problems-questions

Just reading the first post in each of these threads should clear up any issues.

For example having lots of space for your APPS is one of the reasons why you partition your SD card. With a 2.2 ROM you can store your apps on the SD card as opposed to the phones internal memory. :)

ive rang meteor and they havent a clue about the phone.

I am guessing that you have this unlocked,

So it's a matter of going to meteor's website, and dig around for MMS settings, it should text you back the settings for said MMS/data providers to your meteor number?

i have it unlock and the settings aren't on the site

i can get as far as selecting the ZTE San Francisco phone but no settings are available

Try looking for APNDroid, found on the market, which I think has extensive coverage for MMS settings... am taking a stab here as I've never used this... the clue is in the name APN (Access Provider Name) I guess....;)

Ok, after doing a lot of reading and still cant find the answer, I will ask here.

What is the best or most stable version of froyo at the moment and also, one that does not need to connect to 3g?

Does anyone know where you could get one of these for a reasonable price? All the ebay ones are upwards of 175 and it seems impossible to get one in an argos up the north or uk for that matter!!! Was tempted to buy one of ebay ones, but then was like whats the point, it kinda defeats the purpose of trying to get a cheap android when ur paying upward of 200 (including delivery) for one and invalidating any warranty to boot when you get it.

    Thanks

Just checked the Argos stocks, they have 2 in Dungannon, 1 Cookstown and 1 Armagh, all white, none left in grey. You gotta be quick and reserce one now.

At that price, I would get one and then buy one of these to protect the phone http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220690940499&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

If you're willing to go up north, could you not just go to an Orange store up there? Will cost you a tenner more than Argos but still much better that 175 quid.

I'm going to attempt to debrand my SF tomorrow. Is the method on this website ok to use? Up to date and all with the newer models? Anybody tried this method and was it successful?

    http://www.chrislowthian.co.uk/how-to-unlock-de-brand-and-root-the-zte-blade-orange-san-francisco/1824/

It'll be my 1st time trying it and I'm scared :(

I'm looking at getting one of these shipped by a friend from the UK with Royal Mail. I've guessed that it weighs in at no more than 500g (the Galaxy S box weight is around 450g).

Can anyone tell me what postage option i should go for from the following page? I can't tell which one is appropriate.

    http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinderResults?pageId=pc_sltc_rm_results&keyname=rmPriceFinderResults&catId=23500532

    Thanks

My sister posted me one of these on Saturday morning from London and I think it cost her £3.50. I haven't recieved it yet but hopefully I will tomorrow or Friday.

That was the cheapest cost so if your willing to wait a few days it should be the same anywhere in the UK.

I am still having issues with the MMS. I have searched this site, have the settings and numbers etc, but its the actual editing of the MMS details that I cant get done.

I have reset to default, and the meteor data is selected, and there is no way of editing it.

when an MMS comes in, theres a download option, but clicking on it just thinks about it for a few seconds and then nothing.

has anyone with the phone on meteor got the MMS working, and what was done to get it done?
