Indo today, heads of state are making plans for the Queen to visit ireland in 2011 before Mary McAleese's second term ends. That will be a great help to the recession, the cost alone, and no doubt a great boost to the economy:rolleyes:

    annnnd heres the link:

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/visit-by-queen-is-on-the-cards-for-next-year-2476516.html
A visit by Queen Elizabeth to the Republic is on the cards for next year before the end of President Mary Acleese's term in office.

Foreign Affairs Minister Micheal Martin told the Irish Independent that he still expected developments on the visit by Queen Elizabeth II in 2011 but it would not happen in the lifetime of the present Government.

"I think the way has been cleared for a visit, that is how I would look at it, and I would expect something to happen in 2011," he said.

    Cant wait...

They gave us, what 15 billion or so of a loan?

We can at least give her a cup of tea and a ham and cheese sambo.

What's the problem with the so called bickering?

I couldn't care less about the royal family but a visit here is pointless and just asking for trouble.

The people defending this visit are the same kind of Guardian readership that lambast christianity but think a mosque on ground zero is a good idea.

Who is this "Queen?" queen of England I suppose, honorer of the Bloody Sunday murderers? Head of the armed forces which did so much damage on this island under her reign?

Unless she has come over to beg forgiveness she can go fcuk herself. She should also pay for any security she may need too. Hope she gets a punch in the face.

Bring her to Funderland...or let Cork feel like the Capital for the day and host the visit.

Although I wouldn't believe this is gonna happen until I hear Cowen denying it.

When I heard that the Queen will visit Ireland, I felt the same way when I heard about Robbie rejoining Take That.

    I didn't give a shît.

Pity they won't wait a bit longer. Then there's the possibility of Norris as president welcoming her over which would show how much we've grown up as a nation.

She would make a nice juicy target for militant republicans.

What good could come from her visit?

It's a load of balls. She's nothing but a ceremonial figure in reality and her visit should not be a state event which is paid for by us. I'd say the same if it was Ratzinger or Gyatsu. We've more important things to worry about than doing shit for the sake of posterity.

    All bark, no bite.

It's like the people who complained about God Save the Queen being performed in Croke Park and absolutely nothing happened. If she wants to come, let her come.
