Think that BA 747 may have left today. Wasn't near Pier E today but did see some BA cabin crew in T1 .

I 'Think' it may have left at 11.40, I live near Swords and am well used to the sound of planes taking off but this morning at 11.40 the sound of something taking off was unreal.

I said to my wife there goes the 747.

    Could some1 confirm this

Armoured glass set into a relatively heavy frame? I know F all about military aircraft, would the 400 have an armoured (even lightly) cockpit?

Thats correct they do counter-rotate and the A400M is the first to do this, its a great design more properly referred to as DBE ( Down Between Engine ) in that it has helping effects both Aerodynamically and Structurally.

DBE reduces the "critical engine" effect of severe yaw in the event of an outboard engine failure. It also gives around 4% extra lift from the wing at slow speed which means they use lighter flaps.

They are designed in such a way on the A400M to include ballistics resistance and high visible-light transmittance to allow night vision goggle use.

The A400M with the alternative-design transparencies will be the first fixed-wing aircraft to have a fully armored set of cockpit windows.

The cockpit design is in line with the thinking of the A-10 totally safely behind armour.

first of a pair of USAF MC-130E COMBAT TALONS attempting to land on RW24, first bird had to do a fog induced missed approach & go around, in fairness to the pilot he had a pretty good go at gettin her down but he pulled out at about 150ft. typically for here the fog rolled in just as he called up on approach. 2nd bird barely cleared the boundry fence before touching down, too much lowlevel fog for pics

both birds dept RW24 on a nice frosty december morning and heading across the pond, but not before getting atc clearance to do a flypast of the cliffs of moher! bet there was a few surprised tourists that day....

Nice pics of the MC-130s. I think the guys inside just wanted to take a few pics of the Cliffs as they went home. Am sure a few of the US tourists would have given them a wave too!
Out of SNN on a clear day you can often see them.

Id say boeing might discount the aircraft in some way if the airliner chooses the dreamliner scheme

No, it's painted in the Dreamliner livery because it was Boeing's 800th 737-800, just happened to be Ryanair that got it.

......look at the original pics posted on the previous page. The left hand winglet has the Boeing 'white with 2 shades of blue' livery. While the right hand winglet has the normal FR dark blue outer side, white with Ryanair on the inner side.
In addition the nose cone has been replaced since I last saw it. It is plain white in those pics. Originally it carried on the 2 light blues when in was delivered in 2004.

Here it is in DUB in Sep 2009 with the odd coloured parts:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/tearbringer/3966888864/

And in the full livery in July 2006:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/tearbringer/3403226780/

(I'm assuming changing a winglet is a lot harder than just swopping covers on a panel. Aren't they quite heavily attached to the wing? Wonder what happend to it?)

You can see this quite a lot on some aircraft. Airlines spares are always in their normal livery so quick fixes to logo aircraft have to make do with odd colours. I have seen a few Air Berlin aircraft in new bright red livery with a nosecone/turbine cover in the older maroon livery.
