It's illegal because most people aren't knackers and do not like to see or participate in physical violence.

It's one thing for two people to start a fight with each other, but it's not always like that. Normally it's an uneducated knacker like yourself trying to get what he wants through physical violence because he has no actual justification for his actions.

Because people were cheating by using spoons.

Fúcking bastards ruining it for the rest of us.
Most people who are afraid of knife fighting are usually the ones that have never tried it or have had one bad experience where the other guy brought a spoon.

Guys, why are AK47s illegal in Ireland? I want to settle a score with another lad man to man and then I find out that emptying a magazine of ammo into his chest is illegal. Goddamnit, why this nanny state?

You have a right to express any opinion you want.

You also reserve the right to be an idiot.

I'm not saying that you are one, but if you want to be one, then that's up to you.
I choose not to exercise that right.

Pretty ridiculous tbh. Where do you draw the line then in this street fight? Does it finish when one dies? What if people get involved and then innocent bystanders get hurt?

I don't know about you but if I'm walking down the street I don't really want to have to step over a pool of blood and walk past someone kicking the head off another guy.

If they want to fight why don't they **** off and find some place out of the way, or better still why not join a boxing club or something and actually put the aggression to something productive for themselves.
I'd prefer not to have to walk past people falling all over the place from drink and drugs, but it looks like I'll have to put up with it.

Hey guys, serious question now... why is public knifefighting illegal?
    Not sure to be honest.

You think that the people who get involved in street fighting are uneducated knackers? That's just plain wrong. Lots of people don't get involved in street fighting because they want to "get" something, they do it because they think it's fun. There are plenty of people who like to see and participate in fights.

If two lads, minding their own business, want to shoot each other in the heads what harm are they doing anyone else?

    That's why we have prisons.

And there are plenty of avenues available to them if they wish to do so

    That's why we have prisons.

It costs the taxpayer a small fortune to put people in prison for breaking stupid laws like these. That money could be better spent on hospitals and schools.

We're going to need more money on hospitals to treat all these idiots that are street fighting and we certainly need more money on schools if there are people like you out there that think this is a brilliant idea.

    Circular logic?

You are a very good advocate for the fact that schools should have more money.

The taxpayer is already paying for people in hospitals from street fighting. If it was legalised I doubt the numbers would increase dramatically.

The truth is the that the majority of street fights are between drunken people who like to go out and get wasted on the weekend. Then there are knackers trying to rob people, or knackers fighting other knackers over knacker things. And finally there is the very small subset of people who say "lets have a nice street fight together". Those people can go do boxing ring or something like that. Or a field, there's a million places they can go.

I think you are just using the term "street fight" in an incorrect manner.

The law isn't saving anyone from a beating because people continue to break the law. It doesn't work.

It's illegal because the government can't make any real money from it.

    It's a complete conspiracy.

How drinking alcohol is tolerated so widely, but two people kicking the shit out of each other in the middle of a street is not allowed is beyond me.
