Why Is Street Fighting Illegal?

Why is street fighting illegal? It's been illegal for who knows how long yet it still happens on a daily basis.

Street fighting gives physical, psychological, and social benefits. Fighting promotes a healthy way of life, it has done great things for people.

Most people who are afraid of street fighting are usually the ones that have never tried it or have had one bad experience.

If street fighting was legal there would be a lot less crime.

If two lads, minding their own business, want to fight each other on the street what harm are they doing anyone else?

There are lots of people who would much prefer to go out for a fight at the weekend than getting wrecked on drink. Some people don't like getting pissed off their heads.

The government/guards waste resources trying to stop street fighting. Its illegality is costing the taxpayer money.

It's human nature to fight. Of course you can't legalise street fighting in Ireland because there are too many stupid people in this country.

So... If we make all criminal offences legal, then there'll be no crime and the Gardai can go home early!

    I agree.

Should they be treated at a hospital if required for their injuries?

I don't see why they shouldn't be treated at a hospital if required. People who use legal and illegal drugs are treated at a hospital if required.

Why stop there? Why not legalise duelling again?

Somebody insults you, you slap his face with your glove, then it's off to the park, second in tow, for some pistols in the morning, or to slash each other to death in a sword fight.

Make me. I don't agree with these stupid outdated laws regarding street fighting that only appeal to the Joe Duffy brigade and I have every right to express that opinion.

So two lads should be free to fight whenever they want. But the taxpayer should pick up the bill?

This is why street fighting isn't legal

The taxpayer is already paying that bill when people fight on the streets, and is also paying for the guards to enforce the stupid laws. People don't seem to have any problem with the government treating people who are ****ed from legal and illegal drugs. The taxpayer foots the bill for people who have taken too much alcohol and yet that's legal.

Pretty ridiculous tbh. Where do you draw the line then in this street fight? Does it finish when one dies? What if people get involved and then innocent bystanders get hurt?

I don't know about you but if I'm walking down the street I don't really want to have to step over a pool of blood and walk past someone kicking the head off another guy.

If they want to fight why don't they **** off and find some place out of the way, or better still why not join a boxing club or something and actually put the aggression to something productive for themselves.

Don't agree with cokeheads being treated either.
And drinking is not intended to maim. Street fighting is.
But honestly, consensual street fighting is a good method of population control. Not like we're losing anyone valuable or worth keeping.

It's illegal because most people aren't knackers and do not like to see or participate in physical violence.

It's one thing for two people to start a fight with each other, but it's not always like that. Normally it's an uneducated knacker like yourself trying to get what he wants through physical violence because he has no actual justification for his actions.

Guys, why are AK47s illegal in Ireland? I want to settle a score with another lad man to man and then I find out that emptying a magazine of ammo into his chest is illegal. Goddamnit, why this nanny state?

You think that the people who get involved in street fighting are uneducated knackers? That's just plain wrong. Lots of people don't get involved in street fighting because they want to "get" something, they do it because they think it's fun. There are plenty of people who like to see and participate in fights.

It costs the taxpayer a small fortune to put people in prison for breaking stupid laws like these. That money could be better spent on hospitals and schools.

We're going to need more money on hospitals to treat all these idiots that are street fighting and we certainly need more money on schools if there are people like you out there that think this is a brilliant idea.

    Circular logic?

The taxpayer is already paying for people in hospitals from street fighting. If it was legalised I doubt the numbers would increase dramatically.
