The commercial side of it is certainly over-hyped to death and sometimes the whole " You have to be happy- it's Christmas!" thing grates on me... but I then think what a horrible, dark , depressing time December would be without the holiday. Just think of Saturday being just another day to get through the miserable weather we've been having. It's worthwhile if only to brighten up winter. And of course any excuse for giant piss-up is always good.

Says what? Christmas is often the only time people living abroad get to go home and see their families, it's very easy for people who live just down the road from everyone they know to roll their eyes and expect everyone to act like androids.

expecting everything to workout according to plan because its christmas! would you cry if you couldnt get into a metallica concert?

Maybe if you're entire family was there and you hadn't seen any of them in a year or more.

    Ridiculous comparison though, borderline MR.

I know this wasn't addressed to me but... A Metallica concert and perhaps seeing your family for the only time during the entire year are not really on the same level. People aren't crying because things aren't going according to plan, they're crying cause they won't see people they love on the most family-orientated day of the year. Probably a bit sappy, but there ya go.

ya well dont choose the busiest time of the year to see your bloody family especially when its snowing. plus all this comercial stuff drives me up the wall. such a waste of time. just look at the amount of music and perfume commercials there are during christmas. people buying junk and stressing over nothing

Only as hyped as you make it yourself. No one is forcing you to go out and buy things or buy into the whole thing.

yes but the whole thing is forced down your throat, everywhere you look, walk down the street, turn on the radio, the tv, newspaper, its everywhere and its built up for 2+ months

People don't pick that time, it's already picked for them.

It's a chance to meet your whole family, and all your old friends in your local town, it's about reuniting with old pals and family, and spreading joy through presents.

your saying that as if people dont have a choice. i put time a side for all that stuff and dont rely on a collective holiday to do so

You put time aside to gather your whole family together, and all your old mates that you used to socialise with, and getting them all together in one big fun filled night out?

You understand how jobs work right? Christmas is the time people put aside to take time off and see their families.

today christmas day, i have attended tow wakes, both held in the homes, the people were laid out in the parlours next to the christmas tree, the whole families together for the last time, both these people were middle aged, parents, will be attending their funerals tomorrow, one of them one of my best friends, the other i know through one of my children, it puts christmas where it should be, it is about family, for them it is going to be hard, it is sad to lose this time of year, but then again i feel they must be so close to our lord, that he has decided to take them on the eve of his birthday.

What I really object to is how hard it is to opt out.

From every radio station and TV channel spurting out the nauseating nonsense, people go a bit silly at this time of year.

Please don't wish me merry christmas. I don't do christmas. If you were an atheist, I would not insist on 'blessing' you every time you sneeze.

I am not interested in children. So, please do not regale me with boring stories of how excited your produce are to be getting whatever toy they don't need.

I have had a very normal day, thankfully. But for too many people, this day must have been hell.

Grossly over-hyped. The commercial build-up is the worst part of it, especially as all the shops start advertising it right after Hallowe'en. And don't get me started on those bleeding Christmas records that get hauled out year after year!

It is a waste of time and money, a meaningless commercialised glut fest.

It's not actually that hard to opt out of tbh, but I understand you may just feel the need to cry out about it, to make yourself feel unique.

Gosh Big Boy no need to read my posts then if they affect yer buzz. Do you have any cop on? Prozac was over prescribed in the late 90's for people with depression. Are you trying to make some kind of dig at me for not getting with the Cmas gig?

I don't really understand what your problem is matey, I am unique. Nothing goin to change that. But back on topic-actually it is v.v difficult to opt out. Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about.
