    This makes brilliant sense.

It's not total censorship, it's simply stating that some things shouldn't been seen by children. And they're right.

It seems to me that the obvious way it would work would be that porn is accessible once the account holder with the ISP asks for it.

The only way I can see people having a problem with that is if they still live with their parents.

or....if they think the internet is only useful in a completely uncensored form. its amazing as it is now and it has unlimited potential but if you start censoring its a slippery slope to total control of the web

There is no place for porn on the internet, block it all I say.
We cabn then return to wholesome old fashioned courting and learn about real love.

The internet is the perfect place for porn

I agree but I feel strongly that there's things that children shouldn't be exposed to.

Or maybe parents could monitor their childs use of the internet and use parental controls on their computers.

Why should everyone suffer because some lazy gits wont control their spawn.

No, its NOT a trolling attempt.
Kop on. You know me better than that! You've read enough of my thousands of posts!

Here is your god damn link.
    http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/Tech/article484582.ece

Now if you bother your arse to pay for a subscription to the English Times, you can read it from there!

....Which is why I posted a FULL image of the site site for others to read here as secondary back-up/confirmation.
I have explained this image posting situation now loads of times and if you had bothered your arse to read previous similar posts (which I'm VERY sure you have), you would have kopped this, the fcuk on instead of casting stupid totally unfounded aspersions!

Without even having the ability to read the details direct from the site, did you even bother your arse to go the Times front page to see the stories headline/link!
    http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk
(This will change tomorrow so here is an image back-up for those that are newly reading this thread during the week: http://img510.imageshack.us/i/wwwthesundaytimescoukst.jpg/)
No, too bloody lazy to do that! Its easier to call a poster with many posts under his belt, a troll!
Your representation of yourself does you no favours!

    Some bloody party your representing!
    Time to change your slogan:
"Amhrán Nua, a new political party with same rotten attitude to others as previous ones!"

Now go away and kop yourself on! I have never trolled in my life!
Some bloody party indeed if this is the quality of its representatives and attitudes!
Not even bothering to do their research/homework on the Times site before just going and insulting.
    Some things never change!

    P.S.
Its an exclusive story that the Times has printed and anyone with half a brain will assume then that it wouldn't YET be all over the net!
It will be in in your garbage average tabloids in dumbed down form eventually!

    Oookay...

its already illegal to show porn to an under 18 yr old, the legistlation is already there in individual countries, it should be enforced if they are directly marketing it at kids but if its adults being careless its their fault

    +1
Although it may be just a simple call to the ISP, people shouldnt have to go through that just because some people can't control their children.

Also, even if you don't watch/care about porn, the interent should not be controlled in such a way.

EDIT: Also, what gets classed as porn? As someone mentioned earlier, should whole sites be blocked just because they have something that may be considered porn on it no matter how mild (e.g. the Wikipedia article on humans).

Depends. Boards is censored to a degree and is far better for it.

Problem is many people are computer illiterate and teenagers would be far ahead of them in that regard.

The xxx domain sounds like a good idea to me though, still uncensored but could be easily blocked if the will was there.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

Firstly, change your tone. I'm stating my opinion here not having a go. Grow up.

    Back on topic:

I can be excellent at keeping things from my children. I can filter the internet, I can set admin privileges and keep the password secret but a lot of parents don't know or don't bother to do this. I'm positive my kids will have at least one friend with open internet access.

Edited to include: Also, I'm worried about kids everywhere and early exposure to this stuff. Not just my kids.

    You're joking right.
I've lost count how many times I've have to explain to grown men that trying to have sex on the first date will frighten away a normal woman, and attract the crazies to you. I shouldn't have to explain that to a grown man.
Someone who has a normal sense about the privacy and trust issues related to sexuality wouldn't need this explained to them.

And you feel comfortable in your generalisation that any girl that has sex on a first date is abnormal and crazy, do you?

How is that anyone else's problem other than the parent who refuses to learn about the technology their child uses?

If they're going to stop porn because it's bad for the mental health of kids, can they stop x factor and mtv for the same reason?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

And the bit in bold is the main problem. If they don't want their kids looking at porn they should make the effort to find out rather than do nothing and blame everyone but themselves when their kids end up seeing something they shouldn't be seeing noline.

How exactly is this going to work? Do certain sequences of 1s and 0s look like porn? Surely something like Bittorrent will still be usable...

On the substantive question: young men have been idiots regarding sex and relationships since the beginning of time. I don't think you can blame unrealistic expectations regarding first-date sex on online pornography; porn is manifestly unrealistic, and even teenage boys are probably aware that they're not going to end up in a four-way orgy when someone stops to ask them the time. I'd be a lot more worried about the likes of Nuts and Zoo, which purport to be about the real world and yet reinforce the idea that women are good for nothing but sex. At least hardcore porn doesn't pretend anyone's good for anything except sex.

If you type in "incidence of sexual assault decades" on Google, the second hit is from the US congressional record indicating that the rate of sexual assaults has halved since 2005; without some hard evidence indicating a rise in sexual assaults parallel with the rise of internet pornography, I just don't buy the idea that watching porn messes people up. The porn industry makes more money than the film and music industries at this stage, and porn has gotten thousands of times easier to get your hands on, but I'm not seeing any evidence that the rise in porn consumption has changed behaviours in any real way.

Why should parents have to block porn on the internet so i try to block it , i dont want porn on my computer full stop , i dont want porn on my tv but when i subscribe to sky they add in loads of channels i have to go and block so my kids dont see it , im paying over 60 euro a months for sky and over 60 euro a month for eircom and then im expected to pay more to block this filth . i am a parent and i try to be a responsible one but many of ye on here are not parents , thats obvious , get a girlfriend and stop spending all yer spare time looking at filth on the internet in yer mothers house .

i should be able to allow my kids use the internet for school projects without worrying that my 9 year old girl or 6 year old boy are going to see some sick ****ed up **** , just because it turns some people on , why should we all have to accept it .

if people want to watch porn , feel free but dont sacrifice childrens innocence for the sake of a ****

let kids be kids and let them use the internet to learn

Just because some of us don't have kids does'nt mean we need to suffer so your spawn can run wild without you having to worry.

I hate this bull**** that people without kids can't have an opinion on them.

Also try putting an internet filter on your computer so your kids can "learn" without fear of seeing something they shouldn't be seeing.

Are you going to be phoning into Joe Duffy tomorrow morning? "This evil filth Joe, sure 'tis evil and vile etc."

It's clear that such a proposal to block internet porn will simply not work. Pornography is a massive industry. Parents need to keep an eye on their children when they use the internet.

why do you refer to children as spawn , did mammy and daddy not treat you well as a child , is that what they called you , their spawn ?

people without kids dont have a ****ing clue about kids , in fact some people with kids dont have a ****ing clue about them , you learn as you go along , no parent in the world is perfect . Not everyone knows how to block porn on the internet , not everyone is totally computer savvy

so tell me what is your opinion on kids , mr ****ing know it all .

I don't like them. Hence why i choose not to have any.

Why should I be prevented from accessing whatever sites I want, just because you have children and aren't prepared to supervise them when they're on-line?
