    My thoughts:

    1. The whole point of the web is the sharing of information, communication and collaboration. To try and censor it wrong and should not be tolerated.

yeah i agree with you, they'll then try and ban violent video sites and the like afterwards.

it's not porn that sexualises young lads and definetely not young girls - it's music videos like

and other videos such as these that I just couldn't be arsed looking for but we all know what ones they are...

Good idea in principle I think. Though there'd be a lot of grey areas. I mean would wikipedia be banned for its page on vulvas?

I mean I think they would have to change it as I would probably get an infraction for linking it directly here or my account closed if I linked to it on facebook.

It might become the case that most people would opt in for access because it would invariably make accessing a lot of ''not porn but may cause similar offence'' type sites impossible.

There nothing on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulva that any parent should have a problem with. Your kids should know what a woman's body looks like. It isn't something dirty.

Because the child is being encouraged to think that they are a teenager

I needed a bra when I was 11, some girls develop boobs earlier.

Well there's always going to be people who develop earlier than others, but I'm talking about bra's that are marketed specifically at pre-teens.

Here is another morally repugnant sales ploy-

The crowd who give out .ie domain names are very fussy and won't give out any porn ones. one guy got around that with p.orn before .ie.

    Typical backwards ireland stuff really

There was the stuff that was made with the playboy logo for young girls as well. Things like pencil cases and rulers with the playboy logo plastered on them.

Look, we all know that children one day turn into teenagers, when they start to develop an interest in the opposite sex. This is normal, it is a perfectly understandable biological function. It's been the same way for thousands of years.

The problem is that in the modern age, children and teenagers are being hyper-sexualized, thanks to the media, and tv in particular. They are being deliberately targeted at younger ages, and exposed to more graphic material. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that this is going to lead to widespread psychological and emotional issues in later years. The perception of what is real and what is an act for tv gets blurred.

So Christina Aguilera and her ilk have a lot to answer for in this regard. But as John Lennon said, keep em' doped with religion, sex and tv. It'll only last forever....

I believe this is complete fantasy. I watched Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean Claude Van Damme and co butcher their way across the silver screen for years as a kid and heard the exact same things said. That children watching these things is turning them all into violent maniacs. It was nonsense propagated by the kind of people that appear on Fox news and start every sentence with "well speaking as a mother.........". This is the same thing. This idea that children are being "hyper-sexualised" and having "psychological and emotional issues in later years" {lollers} by watching pretty girls dancing to music is nonsense as well. Read fewer tabloids and actually look around you.

It's all very well saying leave it to the parents or sure they'll find a way around it anyway, doesn't mean we shouldn't do anything about it.

the internet should be completely uncensored end of story

From a purely practical standpoint, porn isn't a very good way to learn about sex.

The solution may be better porn.

    You're joking right.
I've lost count how many times I've have to explain to grown men that trying to have sex on the first date will frighten away a normal woman, and attract the crazies to you. I shouldn't have to explain that to a grown man.
Someone who has a normal sense about the privacy and trust issues related to sexuality wouldn't need this explained to them.

There is no place for porn on the internet, block it all I say.
We cabn then return to wholesome old fashioned courting and learn about real love.

    This makes brilliant sense.

It's not total censorship, it's simply stating that some things shouldn't been seen by children. And they're right.

It seems to me that the obvious way it would work would be that porn is accessible once the account holder with the ISP asks for it.

The only way I can see people having a problem with that is if they still live with their parents.
