Most of the living people on this list would be good to employ in certain roles, I'd say.

Depends on the job. These would never work out well...

Mel Gibson as a race relations officer.
Paul Gascoine as a bar man.
Kurt Cobain as a gun salesman.
Jean Claude Van Damme as an actor.

@tudlytops or whatever your name is don't you know you're dealing with the largest grouping of mental patients in the country here in after-hours?!?

looking for a decent honest answer here is like trying to find an honest answer from Bertie ahern!!

however to answer your question I would probably do my best for anyone with mental issues as I suffer myself from depression, PTSD and more

Bit of a personal question here...

Are you bipolar and preparing for an interview?!?

I was in a support forum and someone there is going for an interview and wanted to know what the opinion is.

i am very open about any of my problems but they aren't so I said I'd ask the question.

Is no more personal then any other disability.

People are making good-natured jokes - don't know how you picked up what you did from the post about swans. Personally I'm glad the issue is being treated with humour here rather than unrelenting sombre gloominess. And the two people I know who have bipolar disorder would agree - and would welcome it, god knows it's hard enough for them.

like what, i was asked a question, so i asked it here... what with all the smart ass comments.

If I had asked would you give someone in a wheelchair a job, would I have had the some comments.

If you posted it in AH then possibly yes.

    Is it contagious?

When I first saw the title of this thread I got very angry.

But the responses of the good people here have made me laugh and now I'm calm :)

Op your misunderstanding the jokes, peoples funny comments are meant to imply how silly your initial question is , not insult or make a joke out of people with mental illness.

To give you an answer, its probably not even an important factor except for maybe very specific types of jobs.

In other words, I don't even think an employer would even consider it as a reason to not employ someone.

But I dunno. I've only ever encountered bi polar people online.

I believe that "God's Little Fools" is the more PC terminology.

When did that change? Us polar bears still call them "the busies".

I don't mind if people are bisexual, but I draw the line at employing polar bears.

do you know anything about the Bi-polar condition?

Yes I do. How the hell would an interviewer know that someone is bipolar just by having an interview with them? Unless they asked "do you have a mental illness?"... Are you taking the piss?

Ahhh, you must be new :pac:

    somewhat, come and go.

Suppose there will be something said about that to. ;)

A girl I'm friendly with who has bipolar disorder said employers are concerned about absenteeism all right (and she does have to take sick leave quite often, however I've no doubt not all BP patients do) but that's all.

because it isn't something they can hide long-term, not even short-term in some cases and if the employer wasn't aware the they just be let go.

Yeah some but very few get their meds right to a t, but the maturity will have issues, even if they are not taking time off.

Thing is, would that employer employ someone else with it if presented with the issue.

so actors writers and the occasional visionary politician

but what if you are not an actor writer etc

no famous bi polar brain surgeons

Its sort of a mark of genius in creative ciricles

I'm wondering if it would affect your chances in getting a regular job? where being a genius might be a problem. Admin, some technical jobs, everyday jobs.

I suppose this is exactly why so many people with disabilities are afraid to try to get a job or even ask about it.
