Look its a fare question, why is that people with mentall illnesses are always moked, you know things like BP, BPD, depression, etc can affect anyone any time.

So when it comes knocking on your door be that you or someone you love remember how funny it is.

Most of the living people on this list would be good to employ in certain roles, I'd say.

Depends on the job. These would never work out well...

Mel Gibson as a race relations officer.
Paul Gascoine as a bar man.
Kurt Cobain as a gun salesman.
Jean Claude Van Damme as an actor.

@tudlytops or whatever your name is don't you know you're dealing with the largest grouping of mental patients in the country here in after-hours?!?

looking for a decent honest answer here is like trying to find an honest answer from Bertie ahern!!

however to answer your question I would probably do my best for anyone with mental issues as I suffer myself from depression, PTSD and more

I was in a support forum and someone there is going for an interview and wanted to know what the opinion is.

i am very open about any of my problems but they aren't so I said I'd ask the question.

Is no more personal then any other disability.

People are making good-natured jokes - don't know how you picked up what you did from the post about swans. Personally I'm glad the issue is being treated with humour here rather than unrelenting sombre gloominess. And the two people I know who have bipolar disorder would agree - and would welcome it, god knows it's hard enough for them.

Op your misunderstanding the jokes, peoples funny comments are meant to imply how silly your initial question is , not insult or make a joke out of people with mental illness.

To give you an answer, its probably not even an important factor except for maybe very specific types of jobs.

In other words, I don't even think an employer would even consider it as a reason to not employ someone.

But I dunno. I've only ever encountered bi polar people online.

When did that change? Us polar bears still call them "the busies".

Yes I do. How the hell would an interviewer know that someone is bipolar just by having an interview with them? Unless they asked "do you have a mental illness?"... Are you taking the piss?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 689 ✭✭✭tudlytops

A girl I'm friendly with who has bipolar disorder said employers are concerned about absenteeism all right (and she does have to take sick leave quite often, however I've no doubt not all BP patients do) but that's all.

because it isn't something they can hide long-term, not even short-term in some cases and if the employer wasn't aware the they just be let go.
