    since the patch it takes to long to get into games and when i do it always get lost connection

    my nate type is 2

    my nat type on BO is moderate

    Initally it does take longer to get in alright but thats the only trouble im having.

    No lost connection thingy

    I just noticed there after downloading the patch my Nat type had changed to moderate which might explain all the connection problems

    I changed it to open.

    Seems to be working grand now :confused:

    Did you change your router settings to get it to change to open?
    Or is there a setting somewhere im missing?

    I've barely been able to join to a game this evening and if i do join then it'll hit me with a lost connection/game lobby combo.

    The only games i've been able to join are wager matches for some reason...

    Nat 2 is fine aswell, and is basically the same as Nat 1 (only it's wired?). Nat 3 is what you should be hoping to change if you have it.

    They ruined Hardline Pro IMO, I had just started to have allot of fun using Sam Turret, Care package, Sentry gun and changing the reward in each one, getting something fun every game.

    Now it only works for care packages.

    They fixed it IMO and most I'd say would agree. Nothing worse than seeing a low level only have on Sam/CP/Sentry and getting flukey with dogs or blackbird.

    Care Pack is all that should be let changed I think.

    ya im wired, i though NAT 3 was worst of them

    NAT 1 is straight from the modem to the PS3.
    NAT 2 is CORRECTLY running from a router to the PS3,
    NAT 3 in INcorrectly running from a router to the PS3

    Here, our clan leader made a thread about THE NAT ! a good while ago, maybe this will help some people on here. But normally opening the neccessary ports opens your nat type... for me on black op's it didn't.

    So first up
    what is NAT?
    Network Address Translation
    When you have a router at home, it typically will get an IP address from your provider. But internally you have a different set of IP Addresses for your devices. NAT essentially allows the routers public IP to masquerade as your device and set up a connection. On an outward connection your router remembers what the connection you were making was so it can route the info back to your device.

    So what is NAT1, NAT2, NAT3?
    To put it simply - a simplification for trying to inform the user when they are

    1. directly connected to the internet, hence no NAT, and Sonyism of NAT1
    2. connected via router and device is accessible (can get to all ports on the device), NAT2
    3. connected via router but can't connect to required ports, so redirecting to accessible ports - NAT3


    Which is the best?
    Many will tell you NAT1 - you have direct connection to the internet, blah blah, no latency, blah blah!.
    They're wrong. Yes it is directly connected to the internet, you do get a separate IP from other devices from your ISP, but that's where it stops. You will get the same latency as NAT2, it's not improving it at all - your router still needs to push data through to the device and it incurs latency - firewall is typically very little anyway.
    But there are a number of issues with NAT1

    * You can't connect to other devices in your local network - music/video servers
    * You don't have a firewall on your PS3, and remember now - they are cracking them...
    * Your ISP only agrees to give you one IP, misuse can end up with costs, end of contract, etc.. So while many aren't policing this - it can happen.

    The best is NAT2. Once you have your ports forwarded correctly (will explain in a bit), upnp and other settings NAT2 is the dogs bollix of connections. You get the same latency as NAT1, but you can connect to your internal devices AND get benefits in terms of firewalls and other in your router if needed...

    What about a DMZ (and what is it)?
    A Demilitarized Zone is exactly like what they say in the war movies. A region in your network which no-one is allowed to enter to police. So putting a device here removes it from firewalls, and other settings.
    However there are downsides once again.. Primarily the lack of firewall. For a long time it wasn't an issue, but the PS3 is hacked - so why open yourself in anyway for an attack.
    But most of the issues come with the way most consumer routers manage a DMZ. To do this they must inspect each packet coming into the router and bypass the router.. Depending on the software of the router it can be done well, or it can be an absolute bollix to deal with. The idea is the router should do nothing - but it must. There is only one connection to the outside world after all. Issues in router firmware will cause issues.
    Honestly - use as a last resort only.

    Are there things which mean I must use NAT1?
    Unfortunately yes
    For a number of reasons the netopia routers supplied by eircom can't manage NAT2 properly. Once you are behind the firewall you can't punch holes through it so you are always NAT3!!
    In this instance you have no choice but to do NAT1 for your PS3.

    So you mentioned upnp - what's that?
    Universal Plug and Play
    Some see it as the devil. Essentially though it's a means for devices in your network to open ports on your router without you needing to be involved. In theory a rogue app on a PC could use it to open a port and do lots of nasty things - but the again theres no reason why a rogue app won't figure out what brand of router your using is, figure out the back door and do it anyway.
    However some old routers implement it very badly and cause a lot of issues. Really old netgears and belkins suffered hugely from this.

    Are you going to explain this port forwarding?
    Yep
    Port forwarding is essentially telling the router that any packet coming in on the public IP link for a certain mailbox (port) then please route to this internal IP address. Upnp does this for you, but you may need to do some manual tweaking....
    So you have NAT2, you have upnp enabled, but games aren't connecting. There can be many reasons for it, but chances are something else has grabbed the ports you want and upnp can't get them for your PS3.
    So to avoid this you port forward certain ports so your PS3 always gets them. If you do all the ports correctly and you have upnp then you should have full access to all PSN/PS3 MP features including VoIP in game, etc..

    And the ports?
    There are lots of resources out there
    http://www.portforward.com is an excellent resource in giving you tips on what ports for what games, and how to do them for your router. I would encourage you to look at this site for the latter part if nothing else....
    TBH I've found some ports aren't listed (well 1) and thus I will give you my list of ports that I think you should all port forward at a minimum. The 1 I refer to is for COD. In COD4, and MW2 I continually got the continuously downloading bug!! agghhh...

    PSN Ports
    TCP: 3074
    UDP: 3074, 3075

    COD Ports
    TCP: 5223
    UDP: 2095, 3478, 3479, 3658, 5223
    the 2095 is the one that the sites don't tell you about :roll:

    FIFA Ports
    TCP: 9980-9989, 10000-10500,42100-42199
    UDP: 3659,6000,9750,10500-12500

    Also these are sometimes listed. I don't know why, and they can cause issues if you host a webserver through your router so use at your discretion
    PSN-Web
    TCP: 80, 443

    Finally, this was needed for the MAG beta - not sure if needed now. But have left it alone
    MAG
    TCP: 8995

    Anything else I need to watch out for?
    Well.... Yes
    A lot of PSN Multiplayer games use Peer-to-Peer networking for the online. COD is by afar the biggest culprit. This causes your router to have a lot of connection (just like torrenting). So look for routers that have a good capability for lots of connections. (Google it) The Dlink DIR-655 is king in this regard, followed closely by the Dlink DIR-855, DGL-4300 and DGL-4500, and also the Netgear WDN3700.

    Care Pack is all that should be let changed I think.

    You shouldn't even be able to get a chopper/dogs or anything decent in a care package.

    Someone getting a 4/5 killstreak can actually decide the outcome of a tdm.....its fcuking ridiculous, was the same in mw2 though.

    While I agree totally, removing high killstreaks is a step too far in the eyes of the squeaky voiced 12 year olds playing. Kind of annoyed ghost pro doesn't conceal you from the Blackbird or Dogs, at least with the Gunship or Chopper I can shoot it down fast.

    takes just as long to find a game
    even more frequent game freezes, 4 yes 4, in the last hour, game is unplayable now :(

    4 freezes in an hour, one while playing with a mate, he didnt freeze just got booted back to lobby. The last one i was kiilling a guy and my controller stayed in vibrate mode until switched off...........this is ridiculous, just as i was getting to like the game.

    Have no doubts, this is terrible for your PS3 hardware.

    Agree with changing hardline, I got 3 blackbirds a chopper and dogs in one match from changing care packages. Its too easy. Its good how they'll admit this mistake and change it unlike the commando/OMA that was never fixed.

    The game is just getting worse as each patch is released, I was on for an hour and played two matches and only one of those had a good connection. The game is unplayable now because of the connection issues.

    I think I'll be going back to MW2 until this mess is resolved, at least its playable.

    Haven't played this rubbish in a few days, downloaded the patch a half an hour ago and have only been able to get one game. It takes forever to find one and then the lobby just closes. The one game I did get was lagging as well! Back to Fifa as usual...

    The game has been the best 2nite than it has ever imo on ps3. Finds games in less than 5 seconds and as long as everyone in your party has an open nat type, everyone gets into the game 90% of the time. Played with a party of 6 and the only real problems is the host migrations not working a few times.

    Lag has gotten worse and other play issues...
    Was in a tdm everyone was on full green bars and we go the connection interupted and everyone got bumped back to the lobby

    In another game that lag was so bad i died fell to the ground and then they guy came around the corner shooting..... How do you die before he even fires a shot.....

    They have managed to absolutely kill this game....

    MW2 had far more bugs, annoying issues, but at least you could play the game, this however is now just a big sad joke....

    all complaining about the same issues, with the exception of the US gamers, they actually seem to have reduced lag issues.....

    What needs to be patched:

    SAM Turrets need to be pushed up to a 5/6 killstreak. No way should someone after 3 kills with hardline be able to shoot down a CG/Gunship within seconds.

    Dogs are too weak. More dogs!

    Ak74u, either reduce the damage or increase the recoil. This SMG is fast becoming the MP40 of Black Ops.

    Swap around Tactical Mask and its Pro version. Make basic TM resistence to stun grenades. Would make it a much useful perk without having to use the Pro version.

    Valkyrie Rockets need to be made easier to use. A 7 kill streak for a hit & miss rocket? A predator Missle in MW2 was 5 ks and it was pretty much guaranteed kill(s) every time.

    SAM Turrets should not be able to shoot down anything that ranks above an Attack Helicopter. Either this or enforce my first point.

    I know a lot of these changes probably aren't possible in a patch but I would like to see them introduced.

    sounds like you miss the overpowered killstreaks :D Getting 11 kills is not hard. You think its right that anyone who gets 11 kills without dying deserves to completely spawn rape the **** out of the other team.. not once but twice ?

    IMO tho, the killstreaks in this game are too good. Good players are rewarded far too much.

    11 kills in MW2 got you

    Pred - 1 or 2 kills
    Harriers - incredibly easy to shoot down
    AC130 or chopper - Good killstreaks providing the other team suck at taking down airsupport

    compared to say


    Napalm - Much better than a pred, can easily get 3 or 4 kills, but also great at controlling a map or helping cap/plant an objective
    chopper gunner or blackbird - which is almost as good as the chopper in MW2, blackbird almost garantees your team to dominate the next minute of the game.
    Dogs/Gunship - Gunship imo is much better than the CG in mw2, dogs are the safebet and if they dont get you more than 6 or 7 kills... the other team would have been too busy shooting your dogs while your rape the **** out of the objective.
