John Lennon 30th anniversary

Its been 30 years tonight since John Lennon was killed by Mark Chapman outside his New York apartment. Lennon made a lot of good music during the 60s, 70s and for his final year (and come back) in 1980. Do you think Lennon would have continued making music well into the 80s, and possibly into the 90s / 00s and even today?

Would the music world be much different today with Lennon about, or would he be as obscure a figure as other 60s singers such as his former bandmate Paul McCartney.

Double Fantasy was his last record wasn't it? It had some good tunes, think Watching the Wheels was on it.
As far as what the world would be like with him (I assume you mean from a social change point of view), not much different maybe witha few more good tuens knocking around. Face it, the man was a hypocrite; living in one of the richest parts of Manhattan, a son he more or less didn't bother with. To many people believe the kind of nonsense liek the CIA was afraid of him.

I know. Give me violence any day.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

People tend to give a rats ass at the anniversary of the death of people who influenced them in some way. Happens here too, every Easter. Not entirely sure you'd have the same sentiment though.

Normally when you don't give a rats ass about something, isn't ignoring a thread about that something, instead of visiting it the usual thing?

We're talking about John Lennon here. Not the religious festival. Hence my previous comment. It'd be super if you didnt try divert this thread to another subject.

What, we're not talking about commemorating deaths here? And what does religion have to do with anything? It'd be super if you stayed on topic.

The beatles are quite simply the most overrated musical outfit in the history of recorded music.

    Very ordinary musicians

Without the classic rock of Wings we would never have had the Britpop bands such as UB40 and Def Leppard.

I'll refer you to post number 7 for the first mention of easter (by easter I presume you were talking about easter the religious festival. after all you wrote and mentioned ir first)

secondly, we were asked if John Lennon would have continued making music or if he would have drifted into obscurity like some of his 60's comtemporaries.

My simple response was who gives a rats ass?

Ah, I see. I meant 1916, not the religious element of it. Although I'm not that bothered, people around here tend to give a "rats ass" about it.

In answer to the question, probably neither. He'd have probably continued to make music and remain in the public eye, but more for the messages and opinions than the music.

The more I learn about Lennon and McCartney the more I dislike them. Great songwriters though.

Prefer the Stones anyway, Keith Richards is some character.:pac:

You didnt say that. The difference is that the easter rising had a real impact on your life whether you choose to acknowledge it or not. Real men who died for their nations independence tend to influence the people around them one way or another.

    The beatles made records.

What would Lennon do if he was still alive? Probably be screaming to be let out of the coffin I'd say.

I dont bear any animosity towards them. On what grounds do you dislike them?

I just think their music isn't good enough to warrant what passes for hero worship in some cases.

Paul McCartney is "obscure"? since when?

This is a date that that always saddens me , I grieve not for John Lennon but for the fact that his killer failed to take out Yoko Ono when he had the chance , for that oversight he should remain in prison for ever.

Not to mention McCarthney's solo stuff.

To think Lennon was never alive to see this one....

I think Lennon would for sure have kept on with writing and recording ,there was no reason to suggest otherwise ,maybe a little more low key with live appearences . Was the world a better place for John Lennon being shot ? . People greatly underestimate the influence Lennon had on ordinary people and how many bands and artists during and after post lennon /beatles credit him and his mates as being big influences in their careers ....thousends , Noel Gallagher named his son after him to and pity we never got to see what gems Lennon might have produced .
