Yeah, the banks stole it from all taxpayers. Will all the taxpayers be getting 'free money' from the bank? No, just some of those who stole it yesterday. Who will have to make up any shortfall because of the money that isn't recovered? The taxpayers again. So now they've been robbed by the bank (which we now own) as well as by their fellow 'citizens'.

The level of understanding here is woeful at times. I'd guess there are people on this thread who think that the government just creates dole money out of nowhere too.

Who cares - we're paying for so much crap these days it doesnt matter if we have to pay back a few thousand quid so a few poor families can have a nice christmas.

Oh who cares. This country and it's taxpayers are fcuked anyway, let's all stop with the doom and gloom of it. The bank is getting every cent of that money back, don't worry.

And what are they going to do exactly, they can call all they want, they will get the answer of a legally held shotgun if they keep calling, plus of course i might buy a cctv camera in lidl and if they do anything untowards they will be in trouble not me.

    Legend.

So now the thread has turned to

"Bank with BOI, its your patriotic duty!"

I was referring to posts that saying since BOI is owned by the people now we shouldn't move money out of them

And why would they bother sending someone out to you? All it takes is a court summons. Tell the judge that you refuse to pay and i'm sure they'll find a nice prison cell for you.

I don't think that it what people are saying here in fairness. It is one thing switching bank accounts but it is another thing withdrawing €700 that is not in your account and then behaving as if it is anything other than stealing.

I agree its stealing but the people who are refusing to give it back have nothing to lose which is all because of the banks in the first place- 700e for a day or two in prison sounds like a bargain. fair play to them!

Sure by that logic, what harm one estate agent seeking an inflated asking price, one buyer lying on the salary declaration of a mortgage application, one politician influencing a dodgy rezoning decision, one mortgage broker granting one 100% mortgage to somebody who couldn't afford it.

Stealing is stealing. I don't care if it is from a bank or mugging an old lady. It is wrong and says a lot about a persons character.

Well this is a lot of peoples logic - they see all of the above get away with it so why not them.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong - I won't do it because, well I use my bank quite a lot but fair play to the ones that did - typical Irish begrudgery

Bull****. The people who will refuse to pay it back are skangers who don't care if they never get credit again and don't mind a few days in the 'Joy. Those are the same people who didn't arse themselves working even during the boom when we had full employmet.

Read what I said. I said those are the ones who won't pay it back, not everybody who took out money. Wake up.

Fair enough, I thought you meant something else. I didn't notice any posts like that but then again it is a 50 page thread. Any posts like that would certainly not reflect the general tone of the thread IMO.

€700 for a criminal record of fraud more like. Are you seriously telling thieves "fair play"? There's nothing fair about thievery.

Ok, switching to the small number of (non-skanger) people who will try to hold onto the money when BOI asks them for it back - I don't know if they will become skangers, but they will certainly become familiar with solicitors letters and court appearances. If someone believes they deserve the money to the extent that they will go to prison for contempt of court, more power to them.

It may be wrong, but its the Irish way. Everyone is on the take, the developers with their backhanders for zoning, the bankers loaning each other money, the church with their compensation deals with the political elite, the publicans with their price cartels, the financial sector cooking the books for the banks, the unions with their six figure salary leaders, the business class with their overseas accounts, the hospitals with their patient scams and coverups, the public service with their absurd working conditions, the agriculture industry with their tainted meat cover ups, the middle class and the property investors with their section 23 buy and flip shoeboxes, the media with their 28 page property spreads and buybuybuy headlines, the layabout classes with their dole scams, the travellers with their 101 other scams, the list goes on and on and on.

Everyones for sale, and everyone is on the take.

Dunno why you all have to be mean to poor aul Jonjo, hes just taking his slice.

What a depressing picture. But part of the problem is honest people tolerating it - maybe those who dislike corruption need to speak up more?

    basically it's like this

if you took money from a BOI ATM that wasn't yours in the first place then as soon as your wages are lodged into that account,BOI are going to take back their cash

if your regularly bank using another account elsewhere, and if you don't bother to respond to BOI looking for their money back your credit rating will be ruined which will make getting new services from your other bank near impossible if you have been flagged with the irish credit bureau
so no more cars loans/new credit cards/hire purchase of appliances etc
most sane people realise you need a bank account to function in a modern society

Thing is, everyone isn't on the take, just as everyone isn't to blame for the mess we are in.

It may seem like everybody is, but that is the ould conscience gnawing at you! ;)

Did anyone get the same effect from an AIB banklink?
I have a mate who took out 650e from an Aib banklink presuming it was his emergency tax this week, because he's sick of paying for everything with laser. Turns out he hasn't recieved his emergency tax yet at all, and it was the whole boi system shutdown. I'm just curious because noone seems to have went through the same scenario with an Aib banklink?

He intends to pay it back but if theres some legal thing that refuses boi from searching transactions in an aib banklink i very much doubt hes going to be a good samaritan.:p
