There's more in the Dail Bar now than in the Dail itself.

    Can someone explain this?

    UNIVERSAL SOCIAL CHARGE (USC)
Health Levy and Income Levy to be abolished and replaced
by a new Universal Social Charge on a revenue-neutral basis,
in 2011, at the following rates and thresholds:
    0% < €4,004
    2% €0 to €10,036
    4% €10,037 to €16,016
    7% > €16,016

That can't have been 6 billion, surely?

Doesn't seem to have been too rough?

Also, does anyone have a link to a stream of just the Govt? I'm sick of RTE's fcuking panel banging on.

The devil, you'll find, is in the detail.
And the amount of spending power it will take out of the economy will have a serious effect on businesses already just clinging on; leading to further unemployment and a a continuation of the downward spiral.

    Work harder :D

    :p

The problem is with whacking up the top rate of tax is that some people will work less, not harder (to reduce their tax take) & many of the county's top earners will just piss off somewhere else.

You will be taxed between 0% and 7% depending on what you earn?

Re: students working minimum wage jobs - there is no way what I posted applies here. I was certainly not saying anything about minimum wage workers being dossers (and apologies if it came across that way).

I'm saying to complain that you cannot raise a family on minimum wage does not change if the minimum wage is slightly lowered.
There is no reason that full-time minimum wage workers cannot get raises as well as anyone else - skill up and look for new jobs all the time.

It really really depends. Do you pay tax now?

IMO it's 2010. 90% of the time kids are planned if you are responsible.
I understand that there are accidents, but to sit back and work a minimum wage job and take your state benefits is unfair to everyone else.

i pay about 15 euro a week on the 170euro a week income i get. i believe that is just paye?

A 60% total rate on higher earnings.... that seriously can't be true.

    Fucking hell.

Yep, you heard/reed correct, 17% on the lower earners I think.

Have they mentioned anything about the Bear Tax yet?

Joan Burton's arse must get jealous from the shíte that comes out of her mouth.
If women want to get into politics, or better themselves in their respective careers, they should sew up their fannies. Women have only themselves to blame as regards women in politics. You can't have it every way.
If I only have a fiver I can't buy credit and go to the cinema. No one to blame only myself and its no one else's fault.

It's hard to tell, but I'd imagine you'll be unchanged (relatively speaking) in take-home pay.

Good point. The challenge is how to distinguish between those who deserve it and those who don't.

I don't think it's time for that sort of process. We've given away billions to banks who've ruined the lives of millions. Any witch-hunting amongst us lower classes would only serve to drive us deeper into the mire. We need to fight back against them, not each other.
