    The fact that I cannot answer this question in that language despite being here for 35 years would indicate that the answer is not a positive one.

    Anyway, on topic. I think it should be let alone to sink or swim on its own merits. Compulsory Irish hasn't worked and should be abolished.

    Defending the Irish language is fine and all but it simply isn't that noble a cause. Nobody cares about your stupid hobby. I say this as a native speaker btw.

    Dunno really, i would have preferred being thought French/German or even Chinese, languages which more than 100,000 people speak, for 14 years rather than Irish. Couldn't care less about the language itself, if people want to learn it, each to their own i suppose.

    I insist Irish is dead because Irish is dead. I havent spoke one single word of the language since i got it shoved up my arse during the leaving cert.

    Not one single person I've ever met in this time has ever spoken the language in my presence or even made an attempt to initiate a conversation in irish in my company.

    Is this because irish is widely spoken?
