Just to clarify - most charities receive a certain amount of government funding, ISPCC receives about 10% of its required funding from the government.
Also I used to work there and can tell you that no one gets paid that much. Their ENTIRE administration costs for 2009 were less than 300,000. That's just not possible is one person gets 100,000.

Ok well Concern's ceo gets €140,000 and Goal's €130,000. I would presume ISPCC's ceo salary is quite lucrative too.

Where did you get that from? What I implied was it's not "sickening" to donate to animal charities as one poster put it. They are not just "dumb animals" and provide huge benefit to society.

I agree. But it appeared like it was prioritising humans over animals.

Always helps to check your facts :)

Also as I was interested I just looked it up - DSPCA (according to their website) does receive some government funding, but they don't specify amounts. ISPCA's site says that they rely on the public for 95% of their funding - I'm guessing that means that the other 5% comes from the government.

Neither site publishes their annual report - not knowing much about either charity I won't read too much into it. But in my experience it's always a good idea to check out how exactly a charity spends your money as well as what cause they support.

for those who are interested, ISPCC's annual report can be found here - http://www.ispcc.ie/Media/Publications/General-Society-Publications.aspx

And I'm hardly surprised to hear that about Concern and Goal, tbh. But I shall not disparage them needlessly here

    A bit of both.
I am sick to my back teeth of this pie faced cartoon character changes coming from the very same people who refuse to stand up against the catholic church, in case they rock the boat, or god forbid their little darling doesn't get into the 'right' school.

Yet still, the Department of Education refuses to take any responsibility for the torture and rape of children that went on during their watch and was hushed up repeatedly.

Then all these rich priests and the vatican, that cannot be sued even though they seem to spawn a massive global paedophile ring.

So yeah, sometimes its hard to know when to choose your fights etc.

So, what sent me over the edge, Zuroph, was you using the frigging facepalm thing!:pac:

Im the OP. I started this thread. and I facepalmed about the stupid debate about ISPCA versus ISPCC. I didnt want my thread going off topic. I asked them not to continue down that route and they did. THAT is what the facepalm was about.

Soo...a thread about facebook has turned into a people vs. animals AND a "I hate the church" thread in only a couple of hours?

Might as well go full circle and start complaining about the economy.

Well you got that wrong - Tom Arnolds (Concern) earns 98k and runs a charity making 120+ million. John oshea (goal) earns 98k too and goals income is 66.5 million.

And ISPCC spend 1/3 its money on admin and fundraising but then again you've to spend money to make money, though it's shockingly high compared to the running of other charities.

You'd have to wonder about the mentality of someone using the issue of child abuse to see how far something can spread. And as for those in Ireland who reposted the status with NSPCC in it, how dumb can you get? As previous poster says, we all know too well about abuse it this country. This whole fake campaign trivialises it. What next, child abuse month - copy this to your status if you know someone who's been abused??

Yeah, best you can offer Louis Kind Scaffolding?

Jesus, some of these posters have 13+ thousand posts to their name and instead of saying what they really think about the issue being discussed in this thread all they can do is offer lil' ole in-jokess that have nothing to do with issues involved.

Oh, let me guess Louis Kind Scaffolding, I bet you spent at least an hour today indulging how the idea of how cute you were as a kid choosing your favourite cartoon character.

Yeah go ahead rebutt, and deny but its obvious that the likes of you just like goin' hey mate to yer buddies rather than really paying any notion to the idea of what the issue or cause is about.

Copy n' paste of what I said in R&R earlier:

If people really wanted to help they'd get off their arses and do something. Changing your Facebook profile pic / relationship status aint gonna stop kids getting molested and it won't cure cancer.
Compare that to the people who took the time and effort to come to the Santa Strike Force comedy night yesterday and/or donated to the charity. They got off their butts and actually did something to help people in need. Meanwhile the posers stayed at home and changed their Facebook statuses.

Child abuse is not funny. South park proved this flawlessly.
    That was Child abduction.

Anyway, child abuse isn't funny either.

Its nothing to do with child abuse. Same sort of thing happened a while ago; everyone was changing their statuses to colours (red, blue, etc), you posted the colour of your bra and this was meant to raise awareness for breast cancer or something along those lines.

Whoever starts these fads clearly realizes that there are a lot of gullible people out there, I knew it was nothing to do with child abuse but I put up a picture of Quagmire anyway :pac:

When i looked at the NSPCC's fanpage on fb yesterday it had about 5000 fans. This minute it has 90,439 fans. The NSPCC have said in their status update that "they did not originate the campaign but welcome it".

85,000+ fans in a day raises awareness in my book.

That's all well and good, but it doesn't really help Irish children.

You seem to be quite angry.
I used to be angry. Well, truth be told, I still get quite angry on ocassion, but that's neither here not there. You seem to be angry right now.
I've heard that Camomile tea helps people to relax. Perhaps you could try some, unless you have an allergy to it. If you do have allergies, then I suggest consulting your GP on relaxation techniques.

Anyway, here's my Facebook thingy in response to this thingy.

Someone just updated their status saying the cartoon thing was a ploy being used by pedophiles because children are more likely to add someone with a cartoon character profile pic as a friend. Lol.

Yes jolly cross truth be told. Camomile tea tastes like cats' pee so feck off with that stuff.

I dunno. I grew up as a kid being able to wander free and head off on my bicycle, even if I was withdrawing pound notes on the sly from my communion money post office account to spend on sweets.

Thing is, I had no idea that such a thing like an adult forcing sex on a child existed until I was an adult. Was I just lucky? I cannot help getting angry when I realiase all the stuff and now I will stop this rant because it could go on for a long long time......
